[TRAILHEAD] #HuntTheHacker
or "Dude, Where's My Chicken Nuggets?"

Quote:
At exactly twenty hundred hours on the 27th September, six of the biggest gamers were hacked.
Their channels were attacked. Their gamer tags stolen. And their identities violated.
It appears there is a solitary hacker behind these strikes, with the possibility of more security breaches imminent…

This ARG is being run by UK brand Mattessons Fridge Raiders chicken nuggets. Pop culture references include The Matrix, trollface and Mr Robot. The Puppet Masters are clearly paying homage to previous experiences such as ilovebees and Dude, Where's My Butterfinger?

This is really good Smile Thanks for pointing it out

I'm stuck already though and a bit of research shows that everyone is stuck at the same point Sad

A lot to this one!

I will post a couple trailheads that will lead you deeper. The first is in plain site and is really the entrance to the game but I skimmed right over it the first time I went to the main page. After the videos there is a link to the remote console:
http://remote.ctr-ll.net
There are lots of things to do there with little puzzles to solve. I have only solved the first 3 challenges so far and the others have not been unlocked yet so it may just be a waiting game.
The second path is not so obvious. If you watch the Helloworld YouTube video linked from the main page there is a QR code that appears at about 2:22 that begins another path. I will "spoiler" the rest so you can take the path yourself but I ended up in the same place using both methods and plan to investigate that further.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The QR code leads to http://givemeawink.lol That site has an ASCII image that if you resize the page will eventually align correctly and show a nice Illumanti image with the letters PATHWAYTOTHEETERNALKINGDOM.COM showing on top of it. That site redirects to http://mysticalmasters.net and looks like a fairly normal website. There is a contact page on there with an email address - itrolledyousummore_1SPLATumadnow.com. I sent an email to that address and immediately received a reply from itrolledyousummore_3SPLATumadnow.com with a single word "Our" and the number (1245) at the bottom. I replied back to that email with "our what?" and received a reply from itrolledyousummore_7SPLATumadnow.com with "Our story" and the number (1244) at the bottom. I continued this a few more times with each time another word getting added, the email number going up and the number in parentheses going down by one. After a few emails I had the numbers 1 3 7 9 13 15 21. Putting those into Google gave the first hit on an Integer Sequence site as a list of lucky numbers. Instead of repeatedly sending another 1240 emails I looked up on the list what the 1246th entry was and sent an email to itrolledyousummore_11289SPLATumadnow.com. This returned the complete story, all 1246 words, followed by a URL - http://bit.ly/28Qsybq
That URL turns out to go to https://www.flickr.com/photos/142462099@N04 On that page are 9 apparently blank images with small X's in the center. Not content that they were blank I downloaded them and adjusted the levels until I was able to find text in a number of them. They ended up spelling out flickr.com /photos/ 144016774 @ N04 which takes you to http://flickr.com/photos/144016774@N04 This page shows 9 pictures of horses with eyes drawn on them and coincidentally is the same page you can get to from the keylogger data captured in the remote console.

That's as far as I have gone so far but there is a lot of work that has been put into this and so far it is great fun.

I'm loving this ARG. The Puppetmasters are clearly passionate about the project, and it shows. Very Happy

Another look at the Helloworld video

I looked at the video again and spotted a morse code message that appears for 1.5 frames at about 0:54.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It converts to https://goo.gl/nmgd(uppercase:C)j or https://goo.gl/nmgdCj which takes you to a YouTube video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWCbs3vkLVs
This is the same video that is linked from a Tweet on Ctr_ll's Twitter feed. The title of the video is "00001101 00001010 01101000" which is binary for <enter><carriage>"h" There is also a link that he points to in the video at about 6:36 which takes you to another video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_2652061487&feature=iv&src_vid=oWCbs3vkLVs&v=Oew14hMKS5o This one is titled "01110100 01110100" which translates to "tt"
Again, there is a link at about 8:26 that takes you to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyYsXA_BaCM titled "01110000 01110011" which is "ps"
Another link appears at 1:12 that takes you to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9ahWbmRO48 with the title "00111010 00101111" or ":/"
This video has a link at 5:31 to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DOEj7b-7v4 titled "00101111 01110111" or "/w". At 6:21 it takes us to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOyCoC4c7XM titled "01110111 01110111" or "ww". This continues on... Smile The end result is the url https://www.reddit.com/user/Knight_Of_The_Newb/

Nice solve. Very Happy

I looked at the history of the in-game reddit account that you found, and noticed that they had submitted a link to another in-game website.
http://mission-aqua.com/
Clicking on the betta (nice pun) link leads to an image on imgur. If you look closely at the image...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You can see that some stripes slope to the left, and some slope to the right. If you trace over these areas you get some letters.
I didn't attach my solved image to this post, because that might spoil the puzzle for others.which spell out a hint...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Reading the letters backwards gives us:
THE PASS YOU SEEK IS HIDDEN WITHIN THE DARKNESS
Where have we seen that recently?Heading back to Mission Aqua
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
There is some fine print at the bottom of the page "hidden in the darkness". If you press CTRL+A and CTRL+C, you can then paste the text into notepad.

[PUZZLE] Challenges on remote.ctr-ll.net

I think that most people have completed the first few challenges without any problems, but I've documented them just to make sure that everyone is on the same page.

Challenge 1: cct connection software
Just double click on the "challenges" folder and the cct connection software will open.
Pay attention to the instant messages from user.224
user.224 wrote:
Hi! Have you seen there's another CCTV camera on the webcam drop down list?

Clicking on the cctv-1 camera in the drop down list reveals a "connection damaged" message.
Now back to the challenges folder. Double click on "cct connection software" in the "file manager = challenges:///" window.
The code editor will open.
This is a fill-in-the-blank puzzle. Drag and drop the turquoise code fragments into the empty boxes in the code.
When all the boxes are in the right positions, click "RUN CODE" in the lower right corner. (If you get stuck, you can use trial-and-error to solve the code editor puzzles, as any wrong answers will be highlighted for you)

Challenge 2: keylogger v1.219
Double click on "keylogger" in the challenges window.
This time pick the right answers from the turquoise drop down boxes, then click "RUN CODE"
There are a number of leads and easter eggs in the keylogger window.

Challenge 3: mud developer pro
Another code editor puzzle followed by a choose-your-own-adventure story. (link to map)
There are dozens of options which lead to bad endings, forcing you to start over.
There are also multiple pathways to the good ending. Here is one such pathway I found to the good ending
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
As per the code editor puzzle we just completed, the first option is option "a" and the second option is option "b":

b (eject), a (inspect), b (take), a (climb), a (jump), a (run), a (throw), b (prepare), a (take), b (out), a (investigate), a (inspect), a (insist), a (ask), b (put), a (borrow), a (take), a (take), a (take), a (handbrake), a (right), a (say yes), a (say yes!), a (take), a (accept), a (press), a (Go to the end)
I urge you not to just skip past all the funny bits in the game, such as the trouser quest (link)The good ending reveals...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
© TOMY SIENNA SMITH
Presumably this is another pseudonym for Ctr_ll, and will probably be the answer to another puzzle.

Edited to add: A few people of twitter have pointed out that there is an anagram to be solved.Solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
TOMY SIENNA SMITH = THIS IS NOT MY NAME

Edited to add:
Challenge 4: winradio
This challenge unlocks after you have entered the correct password for cctv-2.
Complete a code editor puzzle and watch Ctr_ll dance.

Challenge 5: universal encryptor
Complete another code editor puzzle to gain access to the 'universal encryptor'.
Pay attention to the clues from user.224 to discover where to use it.Hint:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
see the previously solved "xvggl password" puzzle below.

[SOLVED] cctv-2 password

WEBSITE: remote.ctr-ll.net
LOCATION: Opening the cct connection software and selecting cctv-2 gives us a password prompt.

My guess is that the password may appear in the keylogger window from Challenge 2 during the next couple of days.
user.244 mentions 8 different passwords. So far I've seen 2.potential passwords

[SOLVED] xvggl password

WEBSITE: remote.ctr-ll.net
LOCATION: home:///personal projects and bits/xvggl

I urge everyone to attempt this on their own.what could xvggl mean?
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It doesn't look like English... Perhaps it is encrypted...
What method might have been used?'xvggl' solution
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
It's a Caesar cipher.
"xvggl" is ROT-13 for "kitty"

Entering the password grants access to a locked directory sequence, a story explaining Ctr_ll's motivations, and a few videos.

[SOLVED] voice/final password
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Open "virtual synth 2001"
Click the magnifying glass and navigate deep into the xvggl folder
Open the file "Re-launch Back At It Again.wav"
Set Tempo to 0.5, Pitch to 0.79, Tone to 0.25.

Warning: Progressing any further may break your save, this ARG seems unfinished.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
(the rest of the applications will automatically unlock for some reason, using them could cause a sequence break)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Next, solve the x-lit3 challenge.
Not sure what the application does yet, probably has no function at all at the moment.

After that we have "locate my images" which involves loading the 4 image/jpeg files with long names found in home:///Personal Projects and bits/Hack stuff/Design/Photos and analysing them

What seems to be the final step is contained in "print4free wifi connector" which surprisingly does do something; it prints a sheet on the desk of cctv-2 and you're treated to a cutscene where Ctr_ll tears up whatever you typed.
Presumably we defeat Ctr_ll at this point.

Overall I'm extremely disappointed in the fact that this is unfinished.

The challenges were fun though.

Stuck on winriado

In the winriado challenge, I can't enter anything into the 'input' boxes. I know what I need to type, I just can't type it in the boxes. How do you put anything in the boxes?

Try pressing 'reset code' at the bottom left hand side of the window. It should work after that.

I think I clicked the '//run' at the top and under 'utilities' I clicked on 'locate my images'. The terminal caught up and just follow user.224's instructions.

Thank you for attempting to help, but it still isn't working. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
