[Trailhead?] Mr Evity
Not exactly sure what this is

Okay so basically I am doing all of this because I feel like something is going on. Where I can't be sure I thought it would be best to just do it.

I made myself a new email account (which is not new for me) but this time I got a weird message in my spam. Usually I would ignore it but it just seemed so strange.

It was also the first time I made a gmail account but anyway.

It came with a lot of garbled nonsense that I don't really know what it is.

The guy calls himself 'Mr Evity'
Is that something I should know?

Anyways, If this seems like something anybody has any clue on wanting to help me out with, please stay in touch.

Lukas

Heres the document, it was modified around the same time it was sent too: https://encodable.com/uploaddemo/files/Odd_things/Apologies.txt

[edit - updated the Subject based on this 1st post. -kona]

I am having some trouble (Conversing properly) with you

(Hello

Perhaps it is better to introduce myself
Mr Evity
it is a pleasure.

It is not worth becoming overly cryptic or underhanded but I cannot impart to you information so willingly.

Please understand I am coming to you as a friend, despite circumstances. Understandably this whole situation is
rather coincidental but I am privy to being 'coincidental'

The 64th base is a common occurance for us, expect it often)

So, you made an email address that you had not provided to anyone and subsequently received this email?

While I agree with your skepticism, one is allowed (as has been reviewed frequently lately) to post one's own trailhead if all other options have been fruitless, or if one cannot think of a better way to get out that info. That person just can't post in the same thread again.

So, yes, I agree this is a pretty thin beginning, but as long as they obey the rest of the etiquette of the forums, we should be good to go. Besides, it might be a great game--we can't know unless we give it a shot. My concern is there doesn't seem to be another apparent puzzle right now.

A bit of skepticism but also just trying to figure out if maybe the email was used to register for something, just to find more clues. I'm new to this, so I certainly could be missing it, but I didn't really see anything to go on.

Edit: and the picture link isn't loading anything for me

I was a little skeptic when I deciphered this as well, and the thing is, if it's their own game AND abide by the rules, then we are stuck. There doesn't seem to be a puzzle here and they can't post again, so... we haven't gotten very far, have we?

Guess we need an email address for this character in order to respond?

Well, both files were uploaded here https://encodable.com/uploaddemo/?action=listfiles&path=Odd_things

Different file names, but same file size on the email screenshot. I can't find anything in it, but I may be doing something wrong. Tired Mr Evity, 2rorhcx, lucasp293, normal and base, but no luck

Hmmm, I googled the domain name (angelic.com) of the Mr Evity guy and I found it on a list of domains that people use to send scammy emails. Also found it in mail.com which I'm not sure it's a legit site to create email accounts or not.

good point kona!

So... assuming a response were received, to what detail do people generally share? how much of a solution?

Figuring it out is obviously part of the thrill, so I don't want to ruin anything. I know you can do the spoiler thing, but not sure what's amount of a solution or a result is normally relayed to other players.

Yes, I did just create the email. I got to that point where I had signed up to so many things it was just a mess of junk emails.

And yeah, just got this message pretty much right after. Speaking of which, he just sent another one.

It was titled 'Edgar'

and the message was 'His raven?'

I jumped on here as fast as I could. Heres the screenshot: http://oi65.tinypic.com/2pqw8k9.jpg

"The Raven" is a narrative poem by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, copy pasted from Wikipedia.

Edit: Funny how the files disappeared from the "Odd things" folder as we got a new hint... and got replaced by an edited version of OP's screenshot.

Oh! Sorry - forgot I posted that link... that was me!

I was just testing the uploading parameters of the site. But I can't figure out how to delete it.

But I did notice the other disappeared.

They replied to you? By the way, you can post everything if you want to, just put it under a spoiler tag.
