While Stafford and Stephens recuperated, 30 German divisions roared across an 85-mile Allied front from southern Belgium to the middle of Luxembourg on December 16, 1944. By Christmas, the German offensive had opened a bulge 50 miles into the Allied lines, forcing the biggest mass surrender of American soldiers since Bataan (note of interest: my father-in-law is a survivor of the Bataan Death March), some 4000 men in a single day.

Sounds about right... the Ardennes are mostly Belgian, but also a little French and Luxemburgian. I added your answer and Laz's in the summary above.

Darn, that's twice you beat me at finding an answer by a few minutes Smile

I found this site which might provide an answer to the Brittish Merchant Ship question. Navigation isn't exactly straightforward though, and the terminology and acronyms confuse me somewhat...

Also found this:

Quote:
Merchant Shipping War - Trawlers are the main victims of the first successful attacks by German aircraft off the East Coast. By the end of March they have accounted for 30 vessels of 37,000 tons. Losses from mines remain high - 33 ships of 83,000 tons in December.

The only amount that is mentioned on the site is the amount for december, which is 33...

a period with four items after it? sounds like maybe we're looking for a ".html"?

Are we sure about the fastest plane at 870 km/h?

P-80 Shooting Star is listed at 967 km/h, and although it didn't really see combat:

Quote:
The Shooting Star was possibly the best Allied jet fighter to emerge from World War II (called the P-80 until after WWII), however, like the other Allied jets it was too late to be used in combat. Several were flown around Italy late in the war, but they never saw the enemy.

I don't know if this will make a difference, but I found this.

Messerschmitt ME 163
Speed: maximum speed 960km/h at 10,000km

It did see combat. It's kind of the same with the ME at the beginning, but the numbers are different. And I can see you guys aren't using the numbers for anything, so it probably doesn't matter.

Here is another site with a little more info. Scroll down and under German planes click on The Messerschmitt Me163B ("Komet").

Maybe, I got some different answers

Luxembourg I think should be Phillipines (forcing the biggest mass surrender of American soldiers since Bataan

From this site I found 79 allied ships were lost to mines, although it doesn't specify how many british ones.

I found another ship sunk with the Ark Royal: HMS Courageous was the first escort carrier sunk and was accompianed by the Ark Royal

The last 4 answers I believe should be .html Using that as a guide, I got:
Hero Medal of the Soviet Union
Torpedo Boats
Monroe Doctrine
Leo T. Crowley

i tried using mmgpdeafs79cs.html but that didnt work, so obviously something is wrong somewhere.
