By the way, hakab, what's your Ideltech account?
I think maybe we should post in the IU forum that the code has been solved (so I need your name to give the appropiate credit ) but we won't publish it until talking to Marcus...
Thoughts?

Q. What evidence do we have that any of this is genuine?
Would the DOD allow the sale to the Chinese government if PGP was considered to be a military secret?
If we assume that Alica knows about this then all she need do is inform the DOD and our happy trio would be inside a maximum security facility as quickly as you could say James Melvin, Cancer Omega or Richard White. OE would then be in the perfect possiton to pick up the pieces.

I wonder how we would have gotten that if we didn't have that program you used to FIND the vigenere word to use.
Speaking of which, is this a program available online (so I can bookmark it)?
PS - glad to see this effort was worldwide!!!

Well, MThesburg *did* post the email into IU. So it is considered "in-game". Hey, it's posted. How about a little synopsis of the solve (rather than recreating the entire thread from here) like I did last night. Then he has to respond.
But Mos has to have a "back off" policy if he is going to be sending us puzzles. I understand there might be a "sense of urgency" (there was a little pushiness in #ruware last night for us to get this solved). But part of ARG is that it has to be solved by us and some puzzles take longer than the PM expects (grid puzzle in CTW; eventually a hint was released - that was still a puzzle in itself), some take less time than expected.

Vig can be solved manually, it's just tedious without the key.

OK, its posted.
I was thinking more in some kind of "reserved info" that not all the employees should know. Maybe Marcus gets angry if we post the message but hey!! he asked

I was also wondering how only Marcus could sell it. Remember Marty told him to wait and Marcus said it was done. I guess I was just assuming that all 3 would have to sign for the sale of ToBI. On the Ideltech page it says: "Five weeks later the group had developed Ideltech Information, and put TOBI to corporate use." Another questions to ask Marcus maybe?

Doesn't this give you the sense that the boys aren't in control? The DoD or whoever in the government is approving or preventing sales. It sounds to me like a government deal with China. (which is notorious in monitering it's citizens and using anything against them --no privacy protections there--but we don't need to get into a discussion of China's human rights record.)

Right Shelina. I'm trying to lose that scolding tone...

I don't think the government would allow this sale. I'm afraid Marcus is doing this on his own. If he is doing an Ayn Rand, like Marty said, than he is only thinking about his own happiness. The power has gone to his head. And if the DoD awarded Ideltech a $76 million contract, do you really think they would let ToBI go? What was the last known price of the unknown buyer? In the 300 millions, wasn't it. So if ToBI is sold, than the Chinese government was the unknown buyer, not Alecia. Obviously she knew about the proposal long ago and that is her true agenda, to stop Marcus from playing god.
Again, just my opinion. I really hope Marcus isn't doing this on his own and the DoD knows about it. That would really suck.

I wouldn't attach altruistic motives to Alecia just yet. Even if she's trying to hard to keep it from going to another government, it could still be because she desperate wants TOBI for herself. I find it telling that she hasn't ever even suggested to potential recruits that Marcus is hiding something like this. Even without giving away all the info until she gets someone committed to her side, dangling this kind of information would be a lot more likely to bring people over than just money.
And am I right that we don't have a date on these e-mails? If these were sent some time ago, might lend more creedence to the question of Marty's 'disappearance' recently. How do we know that was even really Marty in chat the other night.

I found this one:
http://www.simonsingh.net/The_Black_Chamber/cracking_tool.html
It doesn't seem to work in Mozilla, but I had good luck with it in IE6.

Oh, and for those who missed it see the "Ayn Rand" link above!
Nice work all! And yes, this was a nice international team effort...
