Re: Asimov

Didn't Asimov have kind, paternalistic robot overlords in his writing? I was always intrigued at the idea that a higher degree of intelligence possible through science fiction might also imply a higher degree of morality. As if knowledge implied responsibility. Hmmm...

Does anyone know the reference of which I'm speaking?

Yes, in Asimov's universe, you're theory is very true. The level of intelligence his robots had reached provided them with a lot of insight as to how the world functions and should be guarded. However there were two reasons for this, specific to the Asimov universe, those being their telepathic abilities and most prominently the Three (later Four) Laws of Robotics. Who knows what they would have done with their technical superiority when the Laws weren't there to force them to help humanity instead of crush it Wink

What book is this?

Kind, paternalistic, telepathic robot overlords? Cool.

Sadly, I see TOBI choosing the dark side of the road.

That's most likely a safe asssumption. As neat as it could be for TOBI to be kind and paternalistic, I wonder how much fun the game would be if all TOBI did was do our taxes and make sure we get green lights all the way on our commutes.....

Actually I think it would be very refreshing if TOBI ended up refusing to do potentially immoral or unethical things and we had to 'rescue' him from the human controllers who want to use him; ie Alecia, Marcus, DOD. But alas, I doubt that will be the case.

Spec: An evil twin?

The question then remains, will TOBI be good or evil?

I suspect the answer will be both.
Ideltech has a program infused with Marty's personality, which is currently being rebuilt.
Omni has a portion of Ideltech's program, which when added to some genetic algorithm data (it is only a matter of time before Alecia gets the file she needs), and Alecia's personality could lead to something more sinister.
It is possible that both Ideltech and Omni will embark on 'rescue' missions.
