ok, shad0, what's the answer to #2... or a hint at least

I'm sad to say that I'm at a loss. Maybe I'll be more helpful with the next problem.

I did better than this when it came to the ILB puzzles Sad

Edit: Marrec: I thought that was the ~CLUE~ to #1, #2 is the numbers. (it has a little 2 in the bottom right, and it says highlight below for stage #2 hints.)

I'm under the opinion that if all us Unf-KoLers put our abnormally large frontal lobes to work on this, we'll win... *cough* But yeh, I'm working on three right now too.

More Edits:

Oh, I think we're confused. I'm pretty sure we're all suck on the same one, we're just numbering them differently. But yeh, I'm on the same one you are. Stoopid bloody number problems....

Stage #2: what I can see

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

ok, there's no digit higher than 8
3,4 and 5 seem to be the prevalent numbers

separated by colour, per line, they are:

1) Red: 42-6-628234343454
Brown: 1-1
2) Red: -6244355544524345
Brown: 1
3) Red: 3--43637423354343
Pink: 13
4) Red: 34423433342373--2
Pink: 10
5) Red: 4844524235352-873
Brown: 1
6) Red: 6234--36
Pink: 11

the pink digits always come in pairs.

I really can't make anything of it. Can you?

Edit... I realised there are 7's and 8's... silly me Razz

Also, because of that little 2 in to corner of the picture, and the hint, "The key is closer than you think" I'm inclinded to believe that 2 is the key somehow... not yet sure how though.

Edit: Atrophied, 8 appears three times in the string of numbers, so 7 isn't the highest digit. Probably just a typo on your part.

I originally thought binary, due to the plethora of 1s and 0s highlighted, but that turned up nothing.

I think that the '2' in the bottom right is just a refence to it being stage #2

No, I really am stuck on Stage #3. Do you want hints for #2, or the solution? If you want only hints, here's a couple, in increasing order of spoil-ish-ness:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. The tiny "2" in the corner has nothing to do with the puzzle. It really is just identifying the stage. There's a tiny "1" in the same corner of the Stage #1 picture.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
2. The different colors are solely to differentiate between single-digit numbers and double-digit numbers. Otherwise, you wouldn't know whether "16" meant sixteen or a one and a six. The highest number is 13, not 8.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
3. You will NEVER solve this if you're trying to figure out what the numbers mean. That is, you can't get the solution by working from backwards from the numbers, as in "What do all the 3s stand for? What do all the 4s stand for?"

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
4. Find something to count.

ok, so from that i got

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the only numbers signified specially are the 1's, there are 4 of them

which lead me nowhere in particular

freq analysis:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

4x 1
11x 2
23x 3
24x 4
10x 5
4x 6
3x 7
4x 8
1x 10
1x 11
1x 13

Giving 2, 3, 4 and 5 as the most occurring numbers (4, 3, 2 and 5 in order)
0, 9 and 12 do not occur at all.

Edit: if I had to hazard a guess, I'd say there are 9 digits in the answer, due to there being space for 9 digits at the end of the string.

Shad0: Am I going in the right direction now?

Holy hell... the reason I was so stuck on number 2 was I was looking at the wrong page! Mad

But yeh, on to three!!

Edit: Thanks for the hints Shad0, they proved extremely helpful.

Why am I still totally stumped on getting this one?
Am I missing something so obvious that I'm gonna slap myself silly afterwards?

I physically hit and cursed things when I found it. Just look at Shad0's number 4 hint. It's the most helpful, and I think giving anything else will just spoil it for you.

This is all true. Now:

The frequency analysis may help you figure out what to count. Certainly Insane Steve thinks so, based on the clues he's been giving.

A quite logical deduction. It happens to be wrong. Mr. Green

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. Return to the Stage #1 page.
2. Count the letters in each word on that page, starting with "This(4) is(2) a(1)..."
3. Look at the numbers in the box on the Stage #2 page, starting with "421..."
4. Curse Insane Steve.
5. Feel stupid.
6. Throw things.
7. Figure out where Insane Steve left off, and count the letters in the remaining words.
8. Try http://www.noblesse-oblige.org/insanesteve/2104465.html.
9. Regain your sense of humor.
10. Try http://www.noblesse-oblige.org/insanesteve/2104475.html.
11. Help us solve Stage #3.

Oh God, now I really do feel stupid.
Don't read this, it's just me venting:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Evil or Very Mad Cursing Bastard, bastard, bastard... etc. Bang Head Evil or Very Mad

Dunce
/me hangs head in shame. Rolling Eyes

I'm ok now, I'm done venting

Onward! Let's solve the next one!

Edit:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

ok, I don't have photoshop/image editing software, but the two little squares to the left of the 'login' and the ones just below where it says "Password" (below the a/s and the s/w). Can anyone resolve them to get anything coherent or are they nothing?
It looks like there's also squares above the 't' of "the", to the left of the 'A' of the bottom "ATTENTION" and below the last 'N' of the same "ATTENTION".

I really hope that this isn't just my monitor acting up.
