aiophobia I don't know if this has been posted yet, but it asks if you have this.
It's a fear of palindromes.. could there be a PS or a "postscript" that we're missing? Or what is syzgy. I remember WYSIWYG- what you see is what you get. Any thoughts?

Oops... Sorry, I'm getting my palindromes mixed up with something else. Palindromes read the same bacwards and fowards. What do palindromes have to do with this project- or is it just one of those craz interview questions?

answers AWARE, the other game currently underway, began with a questionnaire that asked: "What is aibohphobia?" - indeed it is a fear of palindromes (a twisted joke if you ask me).
There have been many definitions of SYZYGY posted, but it has been agreed that it is an alignment of planetary bodies.
Quote:
1 either of the two positions (conjunction or opposition) of a celestial body when sun, earth, and the body lie in a straight line
example: the moon is at syzygy when full
2 (in classical prosody) a metrical unit of two feet
3 (rare) any pair, usually of opposites
4 (Biology) the aggregation in a mass of certain protozoans, esp. when occurring before sexual reproduction
(ETYMOLOGY: 17th Century: from Late Latin syzygia, from Greek suzugia, from suzugos yoked together, from syn- + zugon a yoke)
Hope that clears things up.

It was not Aware that asked the aibohphobia question, but actually Syzygy on the application section of their website.
And it is not a fear of palindromes, but rather an irrational and intense dislike of "intelligent" robots, manufactured primarily by a large and somewhat well-known Japanese corporation.

Really? Every reference I can find is that aibohphobia is a jokey reference to a fear of palindromes...for obvious reasons. The idea that it's a fear of Aibo's seems even more of a joke.
Incidently, wasn't you, Fi, who were getting the palindrome themed emails? Maybe you can shed some light. It wouldn't surprise me if Aibo's were involved - given others' comments about Sente and Syzygy being linked to Atari style gaming consoles, and Sony's links to the Playstation...
Do you know more than you're saying here, Fi?[/quote]

You would be correct, it is a fear of palindromes. I think Fi was being funny.

Duh. Okay, I feel a little silly now... too busy with a football game to notice the tone of Fi's message!
Is there anything worth pursuing around the Sente/Syzygy/games console manufacturer link? Or is it just a clue as to what the game might be about when it launches?

Don't know, but it was merely interesting. The videogame link only hit me due to my main job which I deal with those puppies day in and day out .
Hyperphobia: Fear of Magnum XL-200.
And for interest, in the tagline for this forum, it mentions THE GAME with Michael Douglas. Picked that one up, watched it tonight.. WOW. If you havent seen that movie, you do owe it to yourself all around.

Michael Douglas' The Game: It's not specifically in the forum subtitle; it's from the PS website, and was used on their job advert.
The original thread on here discusses this, and the videogame link, and everything else. There's separating wheat from chaff, and duplicating the chaff all over the place... can't we keep our thoughts straight?
I like Adrian's idea of passing the time with puzzles. Anyone else want to set one in the Syzygy style (or what we've seen of it so far anyway)?

Its all chaff on Syzygy at this point because we exhausted everything from the website, so its now an idle chatter in here at least till the fireworks begin. I only brought up the movie because I had ordered it and was blown away by it.
there IS a small ARG going on this very second,m and the rabbit hole is on argn.com. Its in the thread of arg's arg or something like that. Jump in if you know what the heck to do with Fibonacci numbers :0.....
EDIT never mind, that puppy is over with....

Yes, I was just being silly.
It was the definition that came to mind when I first read the word.

Methinks all we got was a confirming email and we are on the list for when the fireworks start. Was hoping for sooner, but ah well...
