Hmmm, the timer should show the same for everyone, as it determines the time server side, regardless of the time setting on people's computers.

Odd.

By my calculations, I make that 3pm PDT, 6pm EDT -- most of the USA is on Daylight Savings Time now.

Countdown

The countdown is for Friday 4pm for my timezone too. This made me suspicious.
The timer isn't connected to my time and date settings (I changed them to be sure). However, it is dependent on the timezone setting I have under windows.
Rather clever really, I just wish I knew what it meant.

"Hurrah" or "Hooray" in another language?

An anagram? Nope

ROT it? Nope

Okay, so it's not easy (or it's a red herring).

Yeah, and we tried Horah.net and Horah.com (etc). Not game sites.

May be just a software tag. But, I'll leave that determination to the experts in decoding. I'm usually just hanging on for the ride(s).

Horah!

I dismantled the .swf and as far as I could tell It has only two scenes:

The countdown clock which displays 111.11.11.11.111 then counts down to a fixed time(Friday June 18 3:07pm GMT if the timer is taken as ddd.hh.mm.ss.ttt ... Subtract 7 hours for American PST) (which gets the server time and the local time-zone on load and starts counting down... needless to say it looses accuracy pretty quickly when running on a slow machine)

The word "Horah!", which seems to be displayed when the clock gets to 000.00.00.00.000 (Horah is a common method of spelling Hurrah/Hoorah)

The standard meanings of "horah":
- An Israeli folk dance
- A common Middle eastern/Israeli female name (akin to bridget or sally in English)
- A celibratory excamation (like Eureka, Hooray, hoorah, etc...)
- Seems to have a link to mail (again an Israeli usage)... hence www.horah.com being a email service (not the only place to use the word as such)

So perhaps an Israeli dancing woman named Horah will arrive in the inbox of all ARGN.com mailing list subscribers on Friday... or they might just announce it then.

Dissasembly of Flash is usualy not a good idea in ARGs. That's sort of taboo.

Could you shorten your website in your location: tag? It munges the board widths.

If you want to see the Horah! for yourself, just right click the ticker and click the forward option.

by disasemble I mean save the .swf to local machine then open in web browser to enable Flash menu... allows you to use "play", "forward" and "back"... hence knowing the number of scenes... Perhaps I shouldhave used the word "analysed"

Actually decompiling a .swf in ARG is like buying the "hint" book for a PS2 game... defeats the purpose.

I'm not new at this... just finally signed up to UnFiction...

Yer... I realised the location was too long as well... all fixed... sorry about that.

There's nothing interesting in the SWF itself it seems.

If you d/l it and put it in some html without the right click menu options disabled and click Play then you get to the text "Time's up! Stand by...."

Think you should redownload Smile Looks like the swf must've been updated.

Wow... it's been updated in the last few hours... "horah" was definiately a red herring... looks like the flash was updated to avoid the confusion on this thread

So now we wait

i went looking for the original flash, just because we can ;)

http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/countdown.htm

and I see nothing wrong with looking at the source code within a Flash file any more than viewing the source of an HTML page.
