also, can someone tell me how the license plate picture was solved?

Use the letters from the states the plates are from, then you get:

AR + GA + NC - CA + CO + MS + AL + LA = ARGNCOMSALLA = ARGN.COM/SALLA(.html)

For what it's worth, this is Plexata. The original answer was 3-20-102-33-31-33-103-33-31-11.

http://rick1.geekisp.com/chromos/ is where I've got the screenshots of the chromosomes in the order they appeared, as well as images of them in black and white and inverted.

A little more organized (I take no credit; in a few places I confirmed the math but otherwise did not develop methodologies):

after salla.html we got a London Underground map.
Using the Lockjaw methodology of the first letter of highlighted subway stations we got eight letters which made no words but someone tried "EVENCOWS" and lo, there was another page! evencows.html

This is a plexata puzzle involving base 4 conversion and then conversion to letters. Someone else can do the math again, but the answer was
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
"obtain" = obtain.html
(I think a couple people actually solved and went there first, but I think I was the first to post this in #unfiction. right ahead of bagsbee, if I recall correctly)(OK we were being led by the hand through the solve by - was it wishi?)

The new page has another plexata thingie - click the appropriate button and download a tool. Then work the math to figure out what to enter in the tool. Not so hard (the first version had a complicated formula that 5 of us calculated into 8007. that must not have been what they were looking for because soon there was an update that left this much simpler formula).

Enter, watch the load bar fill, then click the blinking arrow again...

Now this is fun - play with the dark triangles on the thing that appears - every time the arrow in the middle lightsup you have found a new combo. Find all the combos and a door opens below to display a series of chromosomes, which Rick has posted above and which are identified as 2-9-4-15-10.

And here we are stuck.

White Knight just observed that if you convert that to letters - bidoj - and then rot25 it the result is ahcni which if you repeat a few times will yield a string of "chain" spelled backwards.

Why rot25? We forgot to mention HAL is watching us as we play. You'll see him show up as a little camera lens and take a picture of you as you work through the pages. "HAL" was "IBM" after rot25. He's very fast, but danman_d took a picture of him (post it, dan!).

I've had too much caffine today.....not enough sleep.....too much blinking lights.....too much working on re-writes of labs.....so if this makes NO sense WHAT SO EVER.....ignore it..... but I'm sure I put a point in some where.....

Quote:
2-9-4-15-10==alpha sub'ed==>BIDOJ
HAL==ROT 25'd==>IBM

So:

Quote:
BIDOJ==Rot 25==>AHCNI

The pictures repeat so:

Quote:
...AHCNIAHCNIAHCNIAHCNIAHCNIAHCNIAHCNIAHCNI...

Which is the word "chain" backward.

Chain.
Links of chain.
Links.
Links of dna in gene.
DNA is a chain.
DNA backwards is "And"
Look pi.
Backwards in pi.
Hmmm pie.
I'm going insane.
Am I close?.
I need sleep.
so I can crack this egg tomorrow.
Hmm bacon and egg pie.
A chain is a measure or distance.

Oh and aliendial also noticed its says "a inch" backwards but thats bad grammar it should be an inch so....yeah.....stuff.....tired....bed calls.

Oh yeah If you didn't know the HAL=IBM thing is a well known in joke from the movie 2001 by stanly kubrick.

Its the only reason I can think of that Hal is there. To hint at the Rot 25

Just popped into my head....

5 letters in Chain 5 puzzles so far (The first one, Salla, Evencows, obtain, the triangles) each puzzle is a link of the chain.

Maybe we have to proceed backwards through the chain, one link at a time.....must go backwards to go forwards....and all thea kungfu stuff.....night again

To get the widget off your screen, click the logo circle (looks like the buttons used on the download screen). To delete the install, just delete the files (.exe and .zip on Windows).

I did try that last night, but it wouldn't allow me to delete it (hence the reason I asked). But today I was able to delete it fine....thx

HAL was in the original widget, too. This isn't necessarily a new phenomenon.

From what I can see, except for the fact that none of the original keywords work, it is exactly as it was during the original game. The triangle puzzle is exactly as it was. The chromsomes were exactly as they were.

"The HAL - IBM dispute

IBM contributed advice about computers of the future, but insisted that their logo's be removed from the on-board computer once they realised that it was to become an errant device. IBM were even less pleased when it was realised that HAL, the name of the computer, was IBM's name with all the letters displaced by one character. The producers maintain that this was coincidence, but the conspiracy theorists maintain that it was Kubrick and Clarke having a swipe at the computer monolith."

/thread hijack

Of course, this has nothing to do with the intended reason that HAL pops up during this puzzle. Might, absolutely, be ROT 25 (or ROT 1?).

Here's the pic of the full karyotype next to rick's pic, just FYI.
and the source site.
