cookie

I noticed that ilovebees.com put a cookie in my browser. Is this standard for even these arg websites? If not, does it possibly hold another piece of the puzzle?

The cookie name is: y1dt8hx (odd for a cookie name)

Maybe this is a red herring (and hopefully not a trout [fishy]) and doesnt mean anything, but i was just curious.

I got one too, with the same name. It's generated by any request to the site that does not generate a real 404 (so 404s via the image script also generate it). It's a single session cookie (no expiration date so it disappears when the browser quits) with a random 24-character value. It looks like the value might be base64 encoded.

Has anyone tried getting into Dana's voicemail yet?
Who wants to bet the PIN code is 0824? (August 24th)
(By the way, press the star key on most VM systems during the outgoing message to check messages)

This seems interesting

searched google for the hive, since it's mentioned quite a few times.

Google came up with this nasa computer thingie

Hive seems to stand for Highly-parallel Integrated Virtual Environment

and the site mentions BEEs, a QUEEN and DRONES

Interesting find, sl1pstream. Unfortunately, the Wayback Machine entry for the site suggest that it has looked like that since 1998.

A six year buildup would certainly be impressive though..

well, they've been building this legacy since the day marathon was being planned, probably early '94 or late '93...

I checked that cookie out quick. It looks like it's just a session identifier. Not sure what it's used for, but the 24 character content string is random and not base64 encoded.

Uhu, but then...

The site seems to mention a Beowulf-class computer

After a quick googlesearch ( Keywords: Beowulf Halo) I found this page

http://halosm.bungie.org/story/newssearch.html?newsitem=436

Lookie

Quote:
....

I have been Roland, Beowulf, Achilles, Gilgamesh.I have been called a hundred names and will be called athousand more before the world goes dim and cold. I am hero.

....

As any Slashdot reader could tell you, a Beowulf cluster is a fairly standard computer term.

Beowulf, in this case, is probably referring to the literary character, as are the other names mentioned. It seems to me as a fairly weak link...
