I think someone earlier posted that it was slowed-down seagulls.

Hmmm, well, I looked up some more stuff (sorry I made a premature post) it seems that thats a sound that a queen bee can make. Example here:

Here's some more info I found

Quote:
Types of Piping: The term "piping" refers to two unique signals which differ in their acoustic properties (see Acoustic Properties below).

· A "toot" is produced by a queen that has emerged from her pupal cell and is moving freely within the nest.

· A "quack" is produced by a queen that has pupated into an adult, but remains imprisoned in her pupal cell by the workers.

Maybe some queen is trapped in the site and is quacking? Hehe Laughing

Interesting that it sounds like/is simulated by slowed-down seagulls, too, since there's a lot of text relating to survival (the sundial) and being stranded out at sea (Gulliver's Travels) and such.

I don't think it's slowed seagulls... I think it's just a queen bee... after hearing other wav files and then listening to it again, it sounds very very similar... the one on the site I linked to sounds very similar, just more quiet.

Also, I work at the beach, and the beach pigeons (as we call them) don't usually keep calling in sections like that, usually its just a long call or two, not a long one and then 3 or 4 short ones.
