Added category hierarchy modification, with the help of the brilliant Wishi-San.

You should have a "preferences" link under your "profile" link in the upper-right hand menu now. This control panel will let you customize the appearance of the forums in certain ways, mainly geared around compressing the front page index to a manageable size. The default settings allow the forum to appear almost exactly as it did before the mod was added.

The following are the settings you can change, with a brief description and marks for default setting (*) and recommended setting (+)

Index packing
Full - Compact the Index as much as possible, only showing the main category folders. (+)
Medium - Show Index in normal mode. (*)
None - Expand all categories, showing every single forum in one huge monstrosity of a page.

Show the last topic titles on index
Yes - Adds a link to the top of the "Last Post" cell that corresponds to the subject of the latest post in that forum or category.
No - Doesn't. (*)(+)

Sub-level links on index
No - Turn off sub-category link display in category descriptions.
Yes - Turn on links for quick access to subcategories.
With icons - Turn on links with pretty pictures that took a long time to convert to the proper color scheme, especially since I forgot to add the right transparency layer on a bunch of them the first time through. (*)(+)

Display viewonline information box on index
Never - Never show that huge stats box at the bottom of the main page and category views.
On root index only - Show that stats box only on the front page.
Always - Always show that sucka. Everywhere! Even in your car's dashboard or inside the dog's head! Look for it! Who's online now, mothasucka?! (*)(+)

I'm a bit disappointed that you couldn't come up with an original icon for "Preferences" and just used the "Profile" one... other than that, great update! Wink Cool Very Happy

Nice work guys!!

Hey, that's how the thing came! Sad Anyhow, I've fixed it for you. Wink

Did you change the graphic of the category bar SB? It just looks a little ... dull now.

Unlike the graphic from Topics rightwards.

Also, one thing, any chance Games, Rumors & Diversions can go above specific ARGs? It seems the right thing to come to first.

A nifty idea to steal:

Take a look at this board:
http://forums.smirkinchicken.com/forum.php?forumid=1

Note the icons that are used on each thread. When you go to post (try it -- hit the POST button), you must choose one of the PostIcons to label your thread (Default is 'lobster'...which used to be 'stupid'.....but changed one day while the site creator was drunk. Don't ask.)

Anyway, something like that might be good so that the post writer automatically has to choose a thread label.

Is such a thing possible on this board? I know that the Smirkin' Chicken forum was written from scratch.

Space would be da bomb in my book if he could do that! Either that or add more pages to "SpaceBass's Europe 2004 Happy Fun Travelogue" so I can have a little more humor in my life. Razz

Oh No! Not the boobies tag! ANYTHING BUT the BOOBIES TAG!

Personally, unless they were color-coded and checked throughly for pleasing asthetics and color matching, I wouldn't like 'em. I see nothing wrong with labelling posts by hand. In fact, sometimes I enjoy that more (e.g. [TROUTYTROUTTROUTx2].

I wouldn't want to give up that pleasure. Not even for a "weeners" tag

Ahhhh... my eyes! No!

I was thinking of something a bit more tasteful with the monochrome color scheme of the site. But you may be right.

I'd second that opinion... i like the more or less no-nonsense look of uF. We can create our own amount of nonsense by coming up with hilarious labels once in a while ... or watch Scrappy do it Wink
