Four Factor

As a Mole-hunter alumni, I found myself right in the thick-of-it-all when it came to number theories (especially when it was revealed in Mole 1 that Kathryn was the fourth player shown in ep1 and since there were four letters in M O L E that was a clue she was the mole. Yeah, whatever.) Ultimately, I found them a little simplistic and appealing mostly to the lowest common denominator of clue hunters

So it is with a little trepidation that I share this spec...mainly regarding any future reputation I may have as a poster on this board. Wink

We were reminded twice in ep1 that the desert heat could "kill a man in 4 hours" On the surface this might be viewed as a running gag, kind of like when people say about the desert temperature "but it's a dry heat" Yeah, hahaha. But when you put this next to Jim's discovery that the per capita income of Push has risen from $12,426 in 1983 to $44,440 in 1985, it makes me wonder what is up with the number "four". 44,440 (four fours) is kind of a strange number to come up with as a total by chance.

I still need to look closer but could it be in reference to the fourth word spoken every ep as creating a sentence, or some such thing?

Again, these things always make me cringe because it creates a spirit of counting everything and that usually leads to obsessive compulsive "Rainman" type behavior that is probably not a sign of a healthy mind. Still, I thought I might toss this out there.

was it actually $44,440? I thought it was a more oddly-rounded number than that, but of course I don't have transcripts or nuthin to look at.

Hey, Shan! It's far too early to discount anything. There have been a bunch of recurring numbers, including 4, 13, 6, 15 just to name a few. I see no reason not to look into something like you suggest, but it may be too early to establish a true pattern. I suspect they may lead us back to some of these things in later episodes.

Keep your eyes open for the title of Ep. 7! Very Happy

Here is the transcript from http://www.pushdiner.com/episodes/epi1/transcript.html:

Quote:
And then, around '85, the town turns around. Per capita income moves from $12,426 per household in 1983 to $44,440 in 1985. New businesses come in, housing starts go up 300%, crime plummets -- the whole thing turns around.

I remember thinking, "That's a lot of fours" as Jim spit out that number. Maybe it's just a red-herring...but, as CPA pointed out, it is probably good to keep it in the back of your head.

Another reference on pushtimes. (Job's business profile)

"This heat will kill a man in four hours," Job points out. "What do people think it'll do to a poorly maintained vehicle?"

They do say that a lot don't they, very redundant of them no?

And in ep3, we were told once again that the heat will Kill a man in "4" hours. Maybe Push can become a drinking game! Whenever they say this phrase, everyone downs a beer. Very Happy

When Jim is in the casino watching all the games being played, twice I saw a sequence where the camera focused on the dealer turning over an ace and a three.

Darn it, i think these later references to "four" will kill my theory before it's even posted.

I thought the number 4 was mainly featured in ep.1, while ep.2 seemed more about the number 9, and ep.3 beat us over the head with the number 7.

4-9-7-?

If the next episode has a favorite single-digit number that glaringly stands out, i'll bump my theory to a new thread.
