Let me input a fresh view on this and forgive me for my Australian ignorance too.

I don't exactly know how you guys access voicemail over in the US but don't you enter a number of numbers, kind of like a pin-code at the bank?

Someone should try playing those hidden sounds in the sound files to try and unlock the voicemail. You may have to increase the speed, decrease the speed or filter them. I'm not a sound engineer - but give it a try. It may have something to do with that.

Pft, if not. No damage done.

Edit: I don't know if you've tried this either. But examined the strage sounds as binary. Might reveal password/message/something.

Don't Hack Voicemail

Pretty well accepted at this point that we are NOT supposed to try to hack into Dana's voicemail box any more. Dana first objected to it in an e-mail, and then pretty much flat out told us to knock it off in her blog as she left for China: "And you can stop trying to hack into my email, voicemail, and web site... good grief."

Keep up the creative thinking, though.

Plus, I looked up information about dialing tones and learned that each single tone is actually two non-harmonic tones played at the same time. You can think of a telephone keypad to be a grid, with the tones corresponding to a coordinate system...
Code:

1  2  3 <-Y1
4  5  6 <-Y2
7  8  9 <-Y3
*  0  # <-Y4
^  ^  ^
X1 X2 X3

To dial '5', the phone plays X2 and Y2 at the same time.

There are 8 tones that have specifically defined frequencies. (there's an X4 column)

Nothing we've unconvered corresponds to standard dialing frequencies, or shows a dual pitch necessary to produce a valid response in the phone system.

In the halo books, the Spartans have a six-note (it's described as "sing-song") melody that they whistle, sometimes over radio etc, to indicate either their presence, or that they are OK.

There's five notes in one of the wavs in this thread. Dammit - why couldn't there have been six?

I was going through the sounds page and came across beesa1.wav that was the actual bee sounds extracted fromt he bee wav on ilb.com I dicovered the when I used Audacity to lower the pitch from an E to a G I can almost hear someone talking. From the begining to just before it hits the "8 seconds" mark it sounds like someone saying "Hello my name is [dead silence in audio] Wellsley ... Wellsley" then I can't make anything out. I remember Wellsley from Halo: The Flood but don't remember what (if anything) happened to him. And I'm only a chapter or 2 into First Strike.

I'd upload the wave if I could find some space that could support the multiple downloads. If anyone knows of a site to put it let me know.

here is the file he was talking about.

I'm not a sound person either...but try overlapping all the sound files. play them all at one time or combine them into one and then try to get the noise out of them...I'm not about to read through 9 pages of posts to see if someone has already suggested this so forgive my ignorance if this has already been suggested
