Nice to be able to ask if the lead is a duck :-)

That's that then?

I still think something is added/altered to the bee.mp3, but then again that file might not be the source for the one used on ILB, so anything could have happend to it in the meanwhile.

changes were obviously made somewhere down the line. but are they related to the story at all? I'm really not sure at all.

I just join this chat but i got to say there is definitely someone is talking, if you notice it there is a split in the waves so there must be to separate phrases.

[SPEC] and please don't stop looking.

I think they may relate to the story....is it possible this is where we'll find messages from the Pious Flea!
I'm basing this on speculation that the PF is the castaway, and from this bit, found in "the links of fun stuff page"

Quote:

deep space, where he deployed Buoys, sending out waves of sound
to confuse the Enemy.

Here is the wiki page for the full content.
If you need some phrases to decrypt it, try...."in the mood" and "stormy weather"; both are old songs..... or "Melissa", "Odysseus", or "Troy"?
And since it seems he's a collector of old music ("scratched vinyl") , it may be some type of musically note code, as someone hinted to earlier.
Incidentally, did the wavs change at all today along with all the other changes to the site?

Dana said that as far as she could tell, nothing had been done with the sound files. Now, the character Dana could be fallible, so we shouldn't completely abandon this, but realize that if we don't find something, we shouldn't try to make it something.

A good tactic may be to archive the original sound files and pursue other avenues, monitoring the web site for to the sound files as the game unfolds. So far, md5 hashes on the old and current sound files are identical, and I doubt the PMs would try to manufacture an md5 collission for the sake of confusing us -- way too much work for dubious gain (remember that the PMs want us to progress in the story as much as we do, so they have very little reason to throw us off the scent unless it forwards the story).

V in the piping wav?

I was looking over all the wonderful work and multiple contributions on this topic; here and on the wiki. There was one item on the wiki , that, in my limited knowledge, and at this late hour, I could manipulate. That is the PipHighSlow.wav.
I turned it to morse...
dot dash dot dash dot dot dash....
converted that to binary....
1010110
ran that through the binary translator ....
which resulted in the letter V.

I know... I know...It doesn't mean anything alone. But as there were multiple bits of hidden text in the same jpg or gif... are we sure that there aren't multiple wavs that alter with each refresh?.... each holding only one letter...tiny bits of information.... like flea prints in the sand? Smile

I've md5'ed several downloaded bees1.wav files and have not seen a difference. Then again, I don't seem to download all of the variety that other people do when I download things, so I could be off.

Neat detective work though.

The problem with the sound files is that we just don't know if anything is actually there. It will be cool if we can uncover a voice or something from the them, but it's just as likely that there's nothing in there to begin with. Until we can verify its existence, the only thing we can do is speculate .... Very Happy

Anyway I did a comparison between the files from before the update and after. The soundwave is the same (they cancel each other out if mixed inverted). The file sizes are the same too and so is the hex structure. Looks unaltererd to me.

Maybe its trying to confuse us?

Is everyone satisfied that you have run out all the steg possibilities? I see mentions here of S-tools, but it looks like there's a lot of different possibilities - see this page, for example -

http://tinyurl.com/6rk3o

Granted this approach probably requires a password, but since no one has managed to tease out anything definitive from the sound files despite the general conviction that it sounds like something IS there, is it worth pursuing to at least try to find a steg detector that can read it?

Could this be a possible solution?

http://www.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=88E54CB08FAD4FCBDF9C6649F7D42A24

Play that in Windows Media Player at 0.5 speed. What it is, is the recording being played backwards. At 0.5x speed, we think we hear "All the bugs are swarming the planet, Please get me out!" But play around with the speed because we can hear some parts a little better at different speeds. Me and my friend thing that she is refering to the Varrao Mites that look very close to the Flood infection form. However this is all speculation Smile

EDIT: added a link since it seems to want to put a player where I wanted you to get you to download it.

I kinda hear the "get me out of here"... but really, is the voicemail even in -game? How did we find her voice mail in the first place? I think this is a stretch.

monitor, from h2

its all in-game (if it is a game Laughing ) the whole idea behind it, is that its real, everything, not only on the net, but letters, telephone, fax etc.

i wanted to ask has anyone actually visited her address? (aunt m)
lol its a stretch, but curiosity for curiositys sake.

i also wanted to know, cos im rather new to this, whats hasnt been solved yet? what remains of the mystery???

thecountdown date, i presume we need to solve the problem before then? or is that wen (rumour) doom 3 comes out???

ill look into the doom 3 storyline, maybe there are parallels, maybe they are slowly revealing them to us, and halo 2 trailer was just a medium.

also- on another note, if it is halo 2 based, could the pious flea be the monitor (little flying evil thing), which escaped from halo at the very end of the first game??? (i take it its evil?)

just to throw some ideas out
