It isn't the name already; that's just a chat channel. Cloudmakers had #evanchan. Don't try to lock us in so early. Plus we can definitely try for something a little more poetic, like Cloudmakers (in-game reference and just a cool name) or clever like jawbreakers (a spin on the game code-name Lockjaw, but otherwise no in-game connection at all), rather than blah and non-poetic beekeepers. Project MU players chime in!

Holy meta crap, batman!

a) The game hasn't even really gotten rolling yet
b) Is a name at this point REALLY necessary?
c) Does a name really matter at all?
d) Isn't this putting the cart before the horse?
e) Can't we just play the game?

f) while we are waiting for an update and are pretty much running dry, can't we have some fun and distraction with tangent subjects, like, picking a name?

A name... how about "Hey You!" Think of the conversation surrounding it!

"Yeah, sorry I was late, I was playing Hey You."
"Hey me? But I'm right here..."
"No. I was playing Hey You."
"Okay, now you're starting to annoy me. I said I'm /right here/."
"Do you want to play Hey You?"
"..."

Very Happy

expanding on the idea that cloudmakers are involved, this is something that may be of interest for some of you, while searching for some more invormation on google about cloudmakers (I'm relativly new to ARGs) I found something in Yahoo, took a look at it, and it sent me to this page

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/cloudmakers/

Firstly this suggests that cloudmakers have something to do with Haunted Apiary, second, that they may be directly linked to the happennings at ilovebees.com

a link there about the ilovebees.com sends me to the the ilovebees.com website, with one minor difference, the address isn't http://www.ilovebees.com it's something else, relating to "Beast" the old ARG that was promoting A.I. if I'm correct.

A character in that ARG was called Evan Chan, he died as part of the game (died as it ARG die, not dead with bullet in head) and the new web address that I come up with is...

http://www.evanchan.ilovebees.com/

on that page it also comes up with the black box with text:

Quote:
HALT - MODULE CORE HEMORRHAGE

Control has been yielded to the
SYSTEM PERIL DISTRIBUTED REFLEX.

This medium is classified, and has a
STRONG INTRUSIVE INCLINATION.

In 2 days, network throttling will erode.

In 16 days this medium will metastasize.

COUNTDOWN TO WIDE AWAKE AND PHYSICAL:

Make your decisions accordingly.

Now I know that that text has been posted before, but I do not remember seeing anyone mention the url with evanchan in it,would anyone want to comment on the connection between cloudmakers and evan chan and ilovebees.com?

cloudmakers was the name of another group of ARG players, some of which, as I've come to understand, play in this one as well. it has also been found that adding ANYTHING before ilovebees.com (xbox.ilovebees.com, iliketodrinkmilk.ilovebees.com, ...) works to the same effect.

I see your point, but the idea that I was trying to make is that it was something that came from a cloudmakers place, and we all know that cloudmakers were involved in the previous ARG, so the fact that that link was including evanchan at the beginning may indicate that when you people were suspecting this a sequel may in fact be correct, but you do have a point about just sticking anything infront of it.

I'm just trying to help, thought some info would be nice, and on another note, could someone please direct me to a place of massive amounts of information on ARGs and Cloudmakers and all that kind of stuff. Thanks

Okay, deep breath. It's a JOKE. As has been previously discussed ad nauseam (in this very thread), anything in front of the ilovebees.com will show you the same site as if you put www in front of it. For instance, if I post a link to james2.ilovebees.com, it does NOT mean you are suddenly in-game.

One of the CM moderators put that link on the yahoo! page to redirect the huge influx of traffic to the actual game site. There is no other connection. I happen to know this for a fact, as I was discussing it with him at the time.

and since I can't seem to find the thread I found earlier about the keywords [admins feel free, and please do, move this to proper place when it is seen] I've noticed some oddities in the source code.
Quote:

<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="honey, bees, Margaret, small busines, beekeeping,
hives, retail, market, Operator, bug, buggy, virus, infestation, WTF is
going on with this damn thing, parasite, strong intrusive inclination, medium,
messages, shipwreck, network throttling, SOS, hoax, game, bee hoax, bee game,
survivor, survive, evade, resist, escape, a little help would be appreciated,
thanks and tip your waitress, sleep, is, good, install, reinstall,
re-reinstall, re-re-reinstall, I, love, bees">

The ones I want to bring attention too are:

Operator, shipwreck, network Throttling, SOS, hoax, bee hoax, bee game, the whole "survive...escape" thing was mentioned as being from some military booklet, thanks and tip your waitress, install..reinstall, and all that incompasses that, and the fact that sleep is good 3 seperate keywords.

Either she really wants people to find this site and help her, or someone else wants you guys to find the site.

And that there is something in there that wants to be found maybe, as I recall wishi posting some stuff about random quotes found there some time ago, there was something about someone being trapped behind enemy lines, maybe someone is.

Ideas in relation to X-Box, the Tron KillerApp game is comming out, now I don't know if anyone has played Tron 2.0 for PC, but in it people are being Digitized, they become scripts in a computer, maybe they are trying to give the illusion of that and having someone trapped behind the security protcalls, this is a farfetched idea, probably no substance either, but it's still worth something right?

yes, maybe. and I don't know enough about The Beast to make a good guess about this, but I SUPPOSE somebody just noticed "hey, if I put our old name in there, it looks as if we were involved. people will be reminded of us. we'll be... immortal!" (you know, to that effect), because, as I said, even if I went to a yu-gi-oh! fan page and posted "hey guys, look at this! www.yu-gi-oh.ilovebees.com" it wouldn't indicate any relation between the two. of course, you might have found the right track, but personally I doubt it.

and here's a writeup of the event by one of the creators of the game http://www.seanstewart.org/beast/intro/

I dont know if this is posted already, but i still post it.

On the blog of ilovebees.com Medox sais:

Medox said...

Hi Dana!

What alot of conversation -- there are so many different ideas being thrown about. It reminds me of my old friend Jeanine Salla. Anyway, I don't have any good technical advice for you, but I wish you the best of luck.

That Jeanine Salla is also on CloudMakers:
http://bangaloreworldu-in.co.cloudmakers.org/salla/default.html
But CloucMakers is offline...

I don't know what this means, but that Medox seems like an important person...

I wasn't sure where to post my reply -- but to stop any confusion I'm not in-game, I was just trying to be subtle/cute in my interaction on the blog. Although alaranth's right, you can't trust people from Rochester Wink
********
And since I'm here, I kinda like BeeKeepers as a name. Obvious or not, it has a certain ring to it. Although something with a "7" in it seems appropriate as well.

Good places to start:
http://www.unfiction.com/history/
http://www.unfiction.com/glossary/ - this will introduce you to a majority of terms that players use, as well as give some background on "playing"
http://www.unfiction.com/dev/tutorial/ - awesome tutorial, compiled by a number of players. It is interesting as it is educational; completing the tutorial will definitely benefit you if you're planning on playing this thing out to the end

http://www.argn.com/about.html - game archives, some general info to introduce you to the ARG world

http://www.deaddrop.us/ - you can find more specific info on past games, as well as news and meta articles concerning the genre.

If you have more time, I would suggest reading the guides for one of the previous games (which can be found in Archives' section).

Us Cloudmakers were at a point 7'000 trying to solve the A.I. Puzzles (called by the PuppetMasters, people from Microsoft and other companies and story writer Sean Stewart, as The Beast).

We were mostly game players except maybe a few that were approached by the PMs to have a bit of control on the events. Especially the moderators of the group.

When the game ended (over three years ago) the PMs brought down the curtain and introduced themselves in the game finale.

After a few chats with them (and a hand few of us got to meet them personally) they mentionned many times that there would most certainly be a Beast 2.

And we believe this is it. I personaly am sure this is it (got my sources).

So lets play this game, it's seems as promising as the first one and I'm pretty sure the PMs have learned alot from our first experience and will take us on an even greater ride.

Let's enjoy it.

I got no sources at all, but I agree -- this seems to be it. The honey bears, the quality of the writing so far... it simply feels right.
