vick, apologies, your post caught me on a bad day and i took it out on you. i concede i was being an asshole, and i take back anything i said which may have annoyed you.

alright, lets assume the operator/SPiDeR knows how a human brain turns binary information into analog information. lets assume they can brainwash and program Dana or even Margaret using visual stimuli

how would they be able to program a human, a being with the free will to stand up from a computer and leave, without coercing them into a seat? the problem would not be so much as how to brainwash them, but when would the opportunity present itself?

For what its worth

Ready for you folk to hit me with some fish...

We've got this AI trying to infect a little website with its consciousness, and it brings along through time all the subroutines and little subprograms that would make an AI of this type viable, which is kinda huge, but let's say it's all on ilovebees.com's FTP site.

The SPDR sounds to me like the utility some speculate intended to erase the AI, which wants to live as this is its primary imperative. It has been mentioned that the AIs are used to living in planet-sized networks, but can be small enough to be downloaded into the Master Chief's skull without reducing the MC into a drooling vegetable (though people I've played Halo with might doubt this last one based on my playing ability)

So, it's now small enough to infect one website...metastatize might indicate a impulse to spread itself across the internet....in which case SPDR, which I believe is made to kill AIs, tries to kill the internet, and from the books, in-game would have the capacity to do so quite easily.

Just throwing out a couple thoughts there;
Marc

Roddy,

'null sweat chum' ...we all have 'em.

To elaborate, consider this...

What motivates a human bieng to do the things it does? What we call
instinct is nothing more than inbeded instruction sets either encoded
by an intellectual entity, or encoded in 'nature' by DNA and adaptation.
In either case, what is happening is neurons are firing in a designated
pattern, in turn causing the host to perform various actions. Whether
we realize it or not, we are recieving low level 'programming' everyday
in the form of mass media (visual/audio stimuli). Case in point....Bobby
sees the new Spiderman movie bieng advertized on TV, the ad contains
rapid moving graphics with bright colors and exciting music. Bobby,
bieng a child, is naturally more sucseptable to low level programming.
Later in the day, Bobby and his mother go to Wal-Mart to aquire various
objects their inbeded programming tells them their host needs to survive.
Stacked on top of Bobby's inbeded instructions is the low level
programming of the Spiderman ad, he sees a Spiderman PS2 game and is
suddenly compelled to aquire it....This of course is a vastly simplified
situation, in which a child is motivated in a rather normal and accepted
way to act in a certain manner. What can be learned from this?

A wise woman once told me..."Always remember, the things you see
and hear are ever-present in your mind. No matter how badly you
wish to remove them,or banish them from your thoughts, they are
there. Every last picture, every last sound, so becareful what you
put up there."

I do not propose that a human's mind/personality/soul, can be replaced.
What I propose is that with proper understanding, an entity could indeed
'co-exist' within the human mind. If a person can be motivated by trauma
to create a seperate existance within their own mind, it must be possible
for more than one entity to exist there. Granted, the technology to
accomplish such a union is by no means mainstream, but how can we
know for sure it does not exist at all?
