[Spec/question] Swarm of new players-- deliberate tactic?

In bemusement, I have lurked all week and watched the results of the XBox trailer release on this community. It seems the only progress made in-game this week has been the veritable swarm of new players and would be players. This image of an unorganized group bombarding the old organized group brought to mind thoughts of social and informational manipulation. So my question is; was this tactic by MS and Bungie deliberate or an unanticipated consequence. Certainly the flow of this community's focus has eroded and expanded. Like what you are anticipating happening to SPDR.

Meanwhile, I wanted to ask if anyone has had direct communication with Margaret? If the paradine of Dana/Margaret = widow/queen, then do we know beyond Dana's word that Margaret is well and active. Rolling Eyes

I am enjoying the brilliant work by this collective detective. I share your hopes for an equally billiant conclusion to the puzzle.

I am one of the swarm of new players that have come to the scene after the rabbithole in the Halo 2 trailer was noticed, and am utterly amazed at how these forums manage to resist the contamination of the general "12 year old" internet. (probably because anyone smart enough to solve the crazy stuff you guys solve is not 12 years old) I sadly first heard about Ilovebees at the Bungie forums and have since laughed at their vain attempts to solve this mystery in their 280 page thread of spam and trout. This forum is the most organized, best punctuated, and greatest well of common information i have ever seen. If you think the organisation of these forums have suffered due to the swarm of new people, im afraid of how organized it was before.

As for Margaret, I havn't heard of her having any direct contact with us, besides through Dana.

I think uniting to (resist! no...) push our way through these things is inherent in their design and necessary. It happened without encouragement for the Beast with a completely new group of people. Integrating a new group with an old group is just a different challenge, right?

So, intentional? Yeah, I think so. But I don't think that's necessarily... I don't know. The point? I don't know if it's meant to confuse and disorganize us, but they must've known something like this could happen when they ILB'd the Halo 2 trailer.

I too have just been "sucked into" this whole idea of ARGs because of the flash of curiosity juice they put in the trailer for Halo 2. I have been reading non-stop for the past two days and I am hooked. This board is extremely organized and, although I hate generalizations, EVERY post seems well thought out and well written.

Kudos to the ARG community. Hopefully I can add to it. Rock On

I followed the original ARG "The Beast" but didn't participate. So this time I thought I could play along too.

Brute Forcing is NOT part of the game.

You do not need the admin password to that website.

You are actually violating United States laws by attempting to "hack" that website.

Read his special forum rank too. That's a Mos-only. He's kind of like the cranky, one-eyed tomcat roaming the bookstore. No one can pet him, but most people love him just the same. Wink

I'm an oldie of the beast 1 as well, joining up with the new swarm of players over here. I got wind via the Jawbreaker Yahoo Group. I really hope this is the real beast 2 and not just a 2 week marketing ploy.

Crossing my fingers for new puzzle tuesday

I asked Dana about her family (including Aunt M), and she stated that she was going to ignore the question. Plus, her love for the word "twing" (which is a web or net used to hold stuff in place on a spaceship) lends a little credence to the paralell of Dana/Margaret = widow/queen.

As another of the people drawn in who was involved with The Beast, though sadly useless to the team... Nice to see another rabbit hole to jump down. It has been a while. But I will likely mostly lurk, like last time.

P.S. I am Patrick Elliott on the cloudmakers forum.

Wow

I got sucked here as well by Slashdot. I am a huge fan of Halo, and can't hardly wait until 2. I know, I know, everyone else is too. I have spent the better part of my day at work today reading forums, looking for clues, and trying to explain to my co-workers what is happening here, and they have no clue.

I was supposed to take part in one of these ARG's a couple of years back, and never made it. Unfortunatly, I dont have much knowledge how they work, but am learning by each post I read.

Hopefully soon, I will be able to join in the fun, of finding something interesting.

MOS, scan MY network, it would be fun!!!
