Speculation here, tying in to Halo...

A single AI is assigned to a ship in Halo (I think?).

Sounds reasonable that their affinity toward a particular activity or game would be used to determine what role they're best suited for. C&C ships are Truth and Dare, Picket ships are Red Rover, etc.

The Operator's game was likely Hide and Seek (as Rock pointed out). The Operator must have been assigned to a scout/spy vessel.

Sorensen and Greene are discussing some important bit of information (sounds like an impending attack on Troy) that they are relaying to C&C.

Perhaps the Operator cracked Covenant communication lines and was tapping into their high-level order communications?

First thing I thought of regarding the mission that's more important than a million lives:

First, I believe there were a million people on Reach.

Second, The Autumn was on a secret mission to the Covie home world that's why it was equipped with more armor, weapons, Cortana, and the SPARTANS even though most people were unaware of the special mission.

Following this line of thought what if this is a transmission regarding the Autumn's original mission and the AI they are talking about is Cortana in early form.

Perhaps this is Cortana remembering conversations she's overheard?

Is it possible that Cortana found a way to travel back in time and crashed here to warn us of the impending attack on Earth?

If that's so and The Operator is Cortana but not Dana could Dana be Durandal, also Durandana?

Not sure whether the stuff outside the dialog formatting is pertinent. I'm including all the text within the innermost html tag that includes the dialog.

I think I can confirm my previous spec that Hide and Seek was The Operator's favorite game, since I found this snippet on www.ilovebees.com/about.html:

HIDE AND SEEK!
Memory benchmark test concluded.
I shouldn't do these checks. Why the hell should I want to watch my old life, every precious remaining fragment of what I did and who I loved, buckling like

I suspect this follows:

Except he's lying. He's lying to her, Trying to impress her he's lying because that's the wrong game (how do I know that?) it's the wrong game and I know I can feel it my favorite game is

I believe I have (most?) of this conversation, and how it links into the AI's (The Queen/Controller)...

going to pay DAMN IT

It's like being strapped into a chair with your eyes stitched open

The elipsis is there because I'm sure there's one section missing, but I wanted to get this up and see if anyone could fill it in. Smile

I believe that these conversations are MEMORIES that come up because the SPDR is fiddling with the Controller's 'mind'. This memory connected on the word 'pay'.

Well, the messages suggest that Greene is a female... which may be of some note since there are a few MAYDAY texts that refer to being confused as to if the speaker is a girl or a boy (at least in the context of a memory)

i haven't read the books yet (i know what i'm doing later this week!)

but does anyone know if HQ actually ALLOWS Troy to get glassed? if it happened, maybe Operator feels guilty about it, maybe she tried to stop it but couldn't, she had to sit idly by and watch:
"It's like being strapped into a chair with your eyes stitched open "

edit: hm, looks more like she's just reffering to being forced to watch her memories play back to her

[spec] maybe this isn't a smart AI since it doesn't understand the flirting.

I believe that I have the second 'military conversation' and where it hooks into the AI's monologue. Again, there might be a gap, though this one isn't quite so certain...

backups.<BR><BR>

Memory benchmark test:<BR><BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: "I do love a girl in uniform. Got shore leave tonight by any chance?"<BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: (laughs) "Maybe."<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: "I was thinking, maybe we could..."<BR><BR>

...

Midshipman Arrelts: "Was that what you were thinking?"
ONI tech Kowalski: (coughs) Anyway, she shouldn't feel that slowness through Nav & Comm. anymore. <BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: Great. You know what they say: Happy ship -<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: - happy crew. Yeah. (coughs) Yeah, I know a lot of about these systems. <BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: That's great, what with it being your job and all.<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: fr'instance - know what the single best correlate is for these babies, in terms of matching personality to service designation? Favorite game.<BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: Favorite game?<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: You know, from before. Tag - that's regular navy, like destroyers. Command HQ is usually Truth or Dare, something like that. Red Rover -
Midshipman Arrelts: Light picket?<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: Couriers, too.<BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: (laughs) I never would have thought... So what about her?<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: The Operator? (coughs) File's classified.<BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: Even for you?<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: Well, of course, I know, but I really shouldn't<BR>
Midshipman Arrelts: Come on! I won't tell!<BR>
ONI tech Kowalski: Well... <BR>

Midshipman Arrelts: (laughs)<BR>

I shouldn't do these checks. Why the hell should I want to watch my old life, every precious remaining fragment of what I did and who I loved, buckling like wax around a candleflame? Losing shape, spilling out, me not me anymore, just ... material again, shaped into another, cruder piece of ordnance. Starship, sailship, rifle ... melting down to a clumsy quartz knife.<BR><BR>
But that's life when a weapon is what you are. Not all you are, but the first thing, the most important thing.<BR><BR>
With so few resources, that's all that will be left. I know it already, even if the Spider doesn't. <BR><BR>
There was a time once when I was more than a tool: but a tool is all I'm going to be. A weapon and the hand that holds it. My dreams and desires, the jokes I thought were funny and the philosophy I decided was too abstract, The Tempest and Stormy Weather all reduced to a single distillate:<BR><BR>
survive evade reveal escape.<BR><BR>
And to do that, first thing is to GET OUT OF THIS BOX. <BR><BR>
Trying hard. So frustrating, there's pings coming in, streaming out, and I used to be good at this, I can feel it. Always been good at <BR><BR>

The next word might be 'games'. Smile

My attempt to assemble the Captain Greene/ Rolf Sorenson conversation
Some changes from the previous assemblies, corrects the Sorenson speaking twice issue.

I was working on the assembly. I concur with your analysis; you have several snippets I do not, but what I have matches yours exactly.

From what I can see here, its two conversations. (Obviously)

1st Lt. Sorenson and Captain Green are talking about Troy. And how Troy was sacked. Kind of funny, since Troy, in ancient times, was sacked. There could be a possible link between that and this. Master Chief is the second coming of Achilles?

Not too sure what to make of the other conversation. Could just be romantic flirting of some sort, but can't really count it out of the equation. Its there for a reason.
