No, I think the castaway would be The Operator. It's been stated before she was the only survivor from the ship.

She's stranded in a strange world of sand (silicon/glass), not too unlike a foreign beach.

Unless I'm missing something you guys have over there that I haven't read yet.

The Castaway hasn't clearly been identified yet. Its only come up through associating of the links on the links.htm page. After trying to get through all of the garble-dee-goop, I think it can be assumed that the Castaway is/was human. "Melissa" is most likely an AI construct, who appears in hologram form to sit and "drink" with him. Crap, I've gone on a wild tangent here.

I saw some of the military talk in the form of a link, I copied it and pasted it here, and it came out in full. The truth giberish goes on for a LONG time, to save space I deleted some of it.

Very strange. I know some of that's been posted before, but I wasn't sure.

Here's some none, military talk below, well it could be. There is talk of shooting. It was near the military talk so I thought it would be good to post it:

Does anyone else think it's a really bad idea for the FIRST directive of an AI to be "survive"?

On the other hand, vitalism, that thing that makes us want to live/keeps us alive has always been associated with rampancy.

I don't think this has been mentioned, but when you were talking about what kind of ship the AI would be assigned to, it got me thinking. You said the Operator was most likely assigned to a spy/scout vessel. Also, in one of the mayday texts it talks about the ship classifcation. It mentions something about a private yacht or something. Well on the Halo Story Page (http://halosm.bungie.org/story/news.html), I found a list of the ships in Halo. One of them that caugt my attention is: "Circumference- ONI stealth ship, corvette, disguised as private yacht." This would make perfect sense, if the AI was assigned to a spy ship, it would most likely be run by ONI, hence ONI tech Kowalski being in her memory.

So with all that in mind, my theory is that this AI, or the Operator, was created by ONI to spy on something, and has an extremely important mission. Another thing, is that this "Circumference" stealth ship was on a space station orbiting Reach, and according to the Cole Protocol, it had to have its memory purged so the Covenant would not find the location of Earth (among other things). So it was the SPARTAN's job to board the station (in the midst of a full blown Covenant assault mind you) and purge the memory of the ship and the AI (The Operator). They probably sent in the Spartans, because they absolutely could NOT have the Covenant find out that they have decoded their messages, which they seem to be talking about in these new messages between Lt. Sorenson and Capt. Greene.

Whew, that's all I have for now. Trout me if necessary Smile

PS let me mention that the only thing talked about this in the actual Halo story was the Spartans clearing the memory, they never said whether or not they successfuly cleared it all, therefore, an AI could have been partially purged. maybe our Operator.

My mistake CoffeeJedi, I had the context confused.

No, I doubt any of the military characters would be the castaway. Particularly not any who seem in place with the crew. I might assume the ONI member to be a possible castaway, but the implied gender for that one is female.

Does it make sense that it's the Covenant that Sorenson and Green have infiltrated? They talk about how important it is that the enemy not discover that they've cracked their C&C codes -- as though it were some big effort, or something. Yet Cortana was almost aghast at how easy it was to intercept Covenant communications on Halo04. Could this be some other entity/enemy that they are facing?

Skia, don't forget that Cortana is the BEST at hacking and intercepting and all that good stuff. Noone at ONI knows about this, they think she is just a helper to Master Cheif. So they wouldn't know that they have a master hacker. Cortana wouldn't want them to know either, since she regularly hacked into ONI's securtiy all the time Wink

Exactly. Cortana is the smartest of all smart AIs. She can run rings around any and all human AND Covenant security, and bamboozle their native AI's.

Except that Cortana flat out said she: "can't believe they're broadcasting tactical data on unecrypted channels."

She never had to even try to crack anything, if her dialogue is to be believed.

I would say that the Covenant couldn't be bothered with transmitting encrypted data on a ship so insignificant as the Autumn, ie. they didn't know Cortana was there.

Cortana expresses surprise on finding that the Covenant had unencrypted data, so obviously this isn't a regular occurence, otherwise Cortana wouldn't be surprised.

Obviously this is only speculation but the 'spider' or 'spiders' sound increasingly like the flood, with probes etc and minds being invaded.

Anyone think that my theory is any good? At least some constructive critisism would be nice. I don't want it lost in the thread... Sad

Wasn't the Circumference the ship docked at Reach that needed to have its nav database purged?

Oh yeah, thats the other ship with the exact same description on the Halo Story Page. Must have gotten it confused. It was all from memory of Fall of Reach. But the name doesnt really affect it, my theory still holds. Here I'll edit it from Lark to Circumference.
