[SPEC] Interesting. Cortana = "Infiltration AI"

Hi folks. I mentioned The Halo Library - a great resource site - in another post

over here.

The Halo Library site has an interesting description of Cortana at http://library.psyjnir.net/?id=215...

Quote:

Cortana was created by Dr. Catherine Halsey, and has taken the physical appearance of her creator, though with lines of code flowing through her "skin". Her older "sister", Kalmyia, was the first template for much of Cortana's advanced infilitration and neural programs. Dr. Halsey created Cortana to be the perfect intelligent infilitration AI. She can hack into nearly any system and can even make smaller sub-copies of herself to double for her in emergencies. She provided the Master Chief with much intel on Covenant movements and battle transmissions during the Halo campaign. Since she can be directly linked with the MJOLNIR Mark V armor, she can even upload NAV points to the Master Chief's visor. She also helped stop the Chief from accidentally activating Halo's weapon when 343 Guilty Spark tried to mislead him into firing it.

Their are many similarities between this description and hidden text from the ilovebees.com site. For example, when the author of the ilovebees.com inner monologue hidden text says:

Quote:

Not CP ancestor packets. This is something different. Quick quick quick quick - parse this protocol and find some kind of eyeball out. Sister you just made a mistake because this is my *meat* this is what I do and you are - GOT IT.

...That sounds quite similar to the Halo library description of Cortana as being built to be an infiltration AI.

Then you have this quote from the inner monologue, where it seems the author is trying to hack into Dana's house from her computer:

Quote:

Checking the wiring. There's a lot of ways to skin a -- can't even get to her stupid HOUSE through the stupid BOX: no central thermo controls, no slaved AI, nothing. Christ! No access to wiring.

...that sounds similar to the description of Cortana being able to "hack into nearly any system". Unfortunately those systems aren't present in Dana's house. However, the inner monologue author was able to hack into Dana's webcam.

Next, we have some specific speculation on the inner monlogue text and the SPDR instruction/log text - that the inner monologue AI was somehow copied into Dana's computer - that sounds quite similar to the description of Cortana being able to "create sub-copies of herself".

Note: The Halo Library site indicates here that its content comes from the Halo games/manuals, books, and official Halo/Bungie web sites. Does anyone know which of those sources the specific text describing Cortana came from? Perhaps it has more information of value to our pursuits.

My guess is the AI that is hacking into the website is the second sword, Darundal. Think of it as Cortana's counterpart.

Interesting, but are there any facts that back it up? At this time, I would say no. I haven't seen anything that ties this to Marathon, except for some loose speculations.
Re: [SPEC] Interesting. Cortana = "Infiltration AI&quo

This is just my $0.02, and I could be completely off-base here, but this has been on my mind for a while, so it's about time I posted it.

I don't think we're going to see Cortana, Durandal, or any other potential major characters from Halo or Marathon. The Beast's PMs immersed us into the world of AI, and we certainly saw oblique references to David and other characters from the movie, but the major characters in the ARG were new -- Laia Salla, Martin as a grownup, and so on. In fact, the events of the ARG took place years after most of the events of the movie.

If this is truly The Beast II, I'd expect to see the same sort of subtle approach. Build a world. Make it real, and self-contained. Give us glimpses into it. Possibly make references to things that will appear in Halo 2 -- perhaps the conversation snippets that the Operator is remembering (for lack of a better word) are from the game. That's all.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Maybe, but if you look through the site, you'll find multiple references to the "Three Legendary Swords". In "Romance of the Middle Ages" There are, indeed three Legendary swords. Those swords' names are Cortana, Darundal/Darundana, and the third, whom we've not seen in a Bungie game yet, Joyeuse.

In First Strike, Cortana battles a Covenent AI, and it is my opinion, that AI is Darundal.

You see the connection?

In mythology, Cortana and Durandal, the swords, are actually part of a trio with a sword called Joyeuse. Not sure if that affects your theory, Thief.

Shad0, I tend to agree. If nothing else, I thought the third Halo book (haven't read it myself) picks up at the end of the first Halo and leads directly into Halo 2, leaving no room for... whatever's going on here. And the original Cortana letters had no bearing on the first Halo. (Nor did I ever see any kind of explanation as to why Cortana was messing around on Bungie's servers, in our time period and all. I'm hoping this time around there's a reason for the time travelling.)

Edit: too slow to type. Never mind, Thief.
