However, my question is: how much META do we bring with us because of this link?
As far as the ARG's fiction is concerned, should we reference HALO or Nylund's books? The video game, 343GS?
I've been working off the idea that I'm not going to refer to anything not directly given by or independently inferred from the ARG in any communication with in-game characters. (E.g. ladybee777, dana )

But it's impossible to ignore the META that the game/novels/cortana letters/etc bring with. When we see 'Reach burning like a lantern of hope', there's no avoiding we recognize the Operator as a UNSC spacecraft AI. But wouldn't that be too easy to deliberately mislead us?

and while we're META, am I the only one deeply annoyed by players who are trying to foist their own 'characters' upon the game? I thought the point of the ARG is that we are who we are (at least pseudonymously). It ain't a LARP. but I digress.
