Why are we assuming that the voicemail is connected to the computer. my voicemail is not connected to my pc and i think something trying to get to it would probably struggle.

how would a AI pass through a modem for start?

A modem transfers analogue data to digital data and vice versa. Now a phoe works on a analogue basis, so unless the sounds the Queen is making is analogue related i think we can rule out the idea of the queen whatever intercepting voicemail messages.

Mandarin

Ok I have studied a bit of Mandarin but really not fluent. The pitched down version of the message is much clearer.
To me the second part is most definitely Dui bu qi. (Sorry)
For the first sentence I hear Wo mei "lou" le.
wo=I
mei=negative (not)
lou= i have absolutely no idea!!!
le= past tense.
If I remember my grammar correctly: using mei and le means "no more"... or not any more. (Or is that bu and le???) Can't remember!!! Embarassed

Does anybody know if lou (or lu) exists in mandarin??? (or anything that sounds a bit like lou...)

Btw: Totally agree.... Dana's mandarin sucks! Rolling Eyes

Dana's voice mail is being handled by a commercial operation that handles voice mail for numerous people. The system is obviously automated, so it at least has a computer controlling it, and is probably completely digital.

The AI is data. How does any data pass through a modem? It gets converted to analog data, and converted back to digital data at the other end.

if you look or search the forum you will see they already figured out what the msg at the end meant, it was something along the lines of "im sorry, im not coming back" or something like that, someone who speaks chineese already told us that, i think its on like page 2 or 3 of this thread.

Modem 101,
The word modem comes from to words, modulater and demodulater. A modem converts digital signals to analouge signals so that they can be transfered via analouge phone lines.
As such an ADSL modem is a bit of an Oxymoron.

So in short, the entity could quite happily use the modem.

Yeah, but you see, all of the mandarin speakers including myself get a slightly different translation to the last phrase. However, they all translate roughly to something about not returning and sorry. So, it really doesn't help us too much does it? So, the last phrase does us no good, translated or not, that is if we're taking it the right way. We could be translating it totally wrong, it actually might be a different language, the way its spoken it bares a resemblance to mandarin but we can't say for sure cause a lot of the mandarin speakers hear it slightly differently so how are we to get a solid translation? Oh well, might as well lock and move on.

Edit: NACIONAL, this might be the wrong thread for that? We'll see about this modem business I guess...

In Japanese, "Wa Me Lu La" is perfectly legal pronounciation, but again that would be a very improperly constructed Japanese phrase. Of course I am not fluent in Japanese (two years of classes) so I can't say for sure.
In romanji, what she said could be written as WA ME RU RA.

Pure speculation here, but maybe her poor pronunciation or sentence structure is to confuse the A.I. that know 300 languages? Maybe the A.I. would have problems chewing on a poorly structured sentence.

if it can speak 300 langs- then ideally she would hide the true meaning of the message in the english part.

although i don't know, i don't get it....

just wat is she referring to? shes answering her mum maybe?

mum, i know your calling just to hear the sound of my voice.

'sound of my voice' .... how far apart do they live? im sure if it was this drastic she would call on her cell, or maybe visit.

there must be some clues in here, maybe a hint for us, is there something wrong with the sound of her voice? (technologically altered)

iano just shooting up some ideas- shift a bit of the focus onto the non chinese part.

She's going to China to run away from the AI. Therefore she will be gone for a while. Her mother will miss her and prehaps call her voicemail just to hear her voice. Seems perfectly logical, even if an AI wasn't chasing her.

[SPEC] I really think we're missing something with the mom and "calling to here the sound of my voice" and chinese. We basically know nothing about Dana's mom, correct? All we know is she was going to China to "get away from it all". Could it be her mom is the one in China and the message is for her? We do know Aunt M and Dana's mom don't get along. She could be telling people she is going backpacking, but is really going to visit her mom. Now, with everything going on, she isn't going to China, and that is the way she is telling her mom? Her message says she's not coming back, but that could be back to China, not back to the US.We really need to find out (or figure out) more about Dana's mom...

So long and thanks for all the fish

Alright, if we can't [PUZZLE] it, we'll [SPEC] it! Smile

probable options for the first 'Chinese' part are:
- I love you (mom)
- some other form of affection/praise (butchered, like "Tsi Tian")
- Goodbye
- Farewell
- some other form of "so long, and thanks for all the fish".[\b]

Or it could be the clue to the next big puzzle... though that seems unlikely to me.

42 was the answer to life the universe and everything. If reversed its 24. Shocked
