Yes, but an AI IS after her. And she is aware of this. It is the reason for her post, and her supposedly running off sooner than she anticipated.
We also know that she had contact with the AI and that it communicated with her. (You can see her encounter and reaction here: http://bees.netninja.com/images/ordered2.gif)
The message she saw, I would imagine, was:

SURPRISE!

Look up and smile, honey.

Bang!
Bang!
Bang!

The AI also expresses irritation at not being able to reach her through other electronic mediums. I'm sure she understands that it will soon enough be capable of doing so.

I believe that her message to her mom, given the circumstances, doesn't make sense. I think she is implying that she understands how dangerous the situation is and that the AI was calling to analyze the sound of her voice to gather further information on her. Seems the switch to mandarin would be to, speak to someone from China? Let them know she won't be showing up as she had planned?
I'd say there's more than enough evidence that implies she didn't leave for China.

And it's all a lot of speculation. What can we do? Nada. Just sit on our hands for now until they throw us something else.
The amount of effort that's collectively been put into both creating and solving this project is astounding.

 		I posted this to the wiki instead. Bear in mind that while I grew up and live in a chinese environment (Singapore) my Mandarin is still quite rudimentary. I did suffer through 11 years of classes for it though.

I'm hearing either 'wo3 mei2 lu lai2' ???? or 'wo2 bu4 hui2 lai2' ???? or various combinations of that. If it is 'lu' and not 'hui', then I have no either what it means (unless it is cantonese for 'lei' (come), but that's simply the same word as 'lai', so it's redundant.)). They all mean the same. "I'm not coming back." For the second phrase I'm hearing either 'dui4 bu4 qi3' ??? or 'wo3 bu4 qi4' ???. First one means "Sorry." 'Second one means "I'm not going." That's quite a big difference. Her mandarin is really bad. She speaks without any tones. I'm just guessing the tones above. Her diction is so terrible, but the second one is unlikely. It's just a distant possibility. I'd say that she was trying to say "I'm not coming back. Sorry."

We can already tell that her Mandarin sucks because the first bit of Mandarin she posted Tsi Tian should be ?? Tsi4 Tsian4. First one has no meaning at all.

i say with 100% confidence it's 我迷路了. the last character is definitely 了 not 來, and if you listen closely you can tell the 2nd character is 迷

I know of the warning to not access the VM. But I had to try this. I thought about it a little further, and connected this even more to Halo. When is Halo 2 coming out? November 9th, (11/09, 1109). I put that in, along with the 0321, and it said the mailbox was locked.
Does this mean anything? Other than we can't get into the mailbox?
Maybe I did it wrong also??

If you heared about not to access the VM, why'd you have to try anyway?! You weren't warned because noone knew the password, you were warned because you're just not suppoed to! Sheesh... -- Giskard

today when i woke up and tried the number it said the number is no longer in service or has been disconnected. anyone else have this happen?

Nope, still works for me. (415) 248-2617. Did you "check the number and dial again"?
