if they hid text within the images AND managed to have the distortions create a "magic eye" picture I'm REALLY REALLY impressed at their algorithm programming. That's really pretty advanced, imo. Has this ever even been attempted by the programming/steg experts out there? Shocked

A quick google didn't turn up any attempts for me.. . .

The repeating pattern of the background image can't be a magiceye picture, because of its repeating nature. In other words, if you save it to disk, you only get one bit of it: the background is just that one bit, but tiled over-and-over. A real magiceye picture is made from an image that looks like several repeated sections side-by-side, but they all contain slight differences that appear as illusionary changes in depth when they align in your defocused eye. The only image I've seen on the site that seems like it has this property is, as mentioned, the most corrupted version of the banner image (BEE_LOGO.GIF). I've tried copying it several times vertically so it fills the screen, to give me more to look at (I know I would just see the same thing several times, but it helps), but either it's really hard to see, or (more likely) there's nothing there. I -can- get into "the zone", but it's just a mish-mash of rubbish, as far as I can tell.

just wondering if anyone tried finding text in the bkg yet. If i use Mozilla and right click and "view background" i get the tiny tile, but every time i refresh i get the same picture that is messed up. maybe there is something in that... did anyone try and run jphide or that other propram to see if there is steg in it?

Just a thought...

I was wondering if "a little awry", could mean a little "ri" (ie. a lowercase "R" & "I"). I've tried using "ri" to unsteg some of the jpg's - but no luck there. Anyone have any other ideas?

Possible link to new site.

I was thinking some more about the "I was looking at your site a little awry" comment. Perhaps the site it's referring to, isn't the ILB site. So using my previous little "ri" theory, I started looking for other web sites. I found this obvious one: http://ri.com. This is a one-page site for "Rom Industries Corp". The brief description says the following:

Welcome

Producing high-tech concepts in Robotics using Artificial Neural Systems.

Prototypes in progress for an eight-legged all-terrain intelligent roving probe, and the Condor(tm) Wing System(sm).

... sounds like our kind of site!

There are links on the site, but they all just point to the home page. The small white-on-black company logo is also strange (see attached gif). Basically, it's comprised of a 12x13 grid, with some squares white and the others black. It doesn't really look like the sort of logo most companys have. In fact, it could be viewed as some multi-legged (possibly winged), insect. If this is the site referred to in the "little awry" comment, perhaps this logo somehow represents "the innocent bystander"?!

Anyway, this could all just be a red herring - but it looks more than just a tad suspicious to me. Can someone with the know-how please look up the age/owner of this site. That might give us some clue as to whether this is a real (or game) site.

Ri.com, eh? Well, could be a dead end, but has anyone tried calling the place yet?

Network bandwidth provided by Inner Source Computer Services, Inc.

Looking up "Inner Source Computer Services" brings you to possibly the best website ever made: http://www.innersource.com

I stand corrected. It's a major Dead End. Probably hasn't even been touched in a decade. Smell the dust?

Sites that make you go hmmmm..

Thanks for looking that up, CoffeeJedi. That's positively ancient - most people wouldn't have known about the internet in '92!

The "Database last updated on 01-Jul-2004" is interesting though. If someone's been maintaining this site, you'd think they'd do a better job! Maybe Bungie managed to get their hands on an old site? It might be worthwhile trying that number. I'm in Australia, so I'll leave that for somebody in the neighbourhood.

I've tried a few words/phrases from the site, but no luck so far with de-stegging. The "Eight-Legged All-Terrain Intelligent Roving Probe" would make a nice 7-letter key (ELATIRP). I must admit that the description sounds a lot like the SPiDeR.

just wanted to update, and i know this sounds cheap, but i wrote a quick program to read a wordlist in and check the site for those files. right now i am in the d's and have not found but a few pages we already knew about...i dont really expect to find anything, surely it will be in a subfolder, or at least one of those grope.!surge things...anyways, just wanted to let you all know, and if anyone wants to try it for jpgs, as i am only looking for html files right now, let me know, and i can modify the prog and send it to you...
