Sorry, Sequel, I'm getting what you're looking at, but I don't see any green man. I see some pixelization that happens with jpeg, but other than that, nuttin.

ri.com Phone Number

Well, I just tried the number, some dude answered with a simple "hello?", not exzactly very professional for a major R&D company, Anyways I hung up after he answered since I cant really afford a long Phone call to Chicago from Canada.

Oh, hey, I just noticed that this is my first post. I've been following the game for about a week now, never had anything interesting to input though.

Um, gringo, I have no idea what you're talking about... what number did you call? What's the R&D company?

Most likely RI.com, makes of an 8-legged exploratory probe, and some concord wings.

Sorry,
I called that number as per Bellebet's suggestion:

Quote:
Ri.com, eh? Well, could be a dead end, but has anyone tried calling the place yet?

As for the whole R&D thing, Rom Industries Corp seems to be researching and developing the "eight-legged all-terrain intelligent roving probe", and the "Condor(tm) Wing System(sm)".

I suppose my last post should have been a bit more detailed.

Once again,

[edit]Dagnabit, I thought I was done that time...
I should also point out that upon closer inspection it appears that the number is some guy's home phone - Pred S. Bundalo

[2nd Edit] Allright....... http://www.ri.com , post about it in this thread here , 'bout halfway down, posted by Strider

[3rd Edit] I see that its all cleared up now, sorry fer any confusion.

I'm really really sorry, cuz I'm still not getting it.. (and I've been searching...) Where did you get the idea to check ri.com? Where did this fit in the game? (I apologize, as this is the first time this game where I've had a "huh- um... what? Oh.... wait- What?" experience... forgive me. (you don't have to explain if you can link me to the post or whatever...)
Thanks for your patience...

Also, by the way, if needed, I think I could check on the address. I live in a suburb of Chicago.. I may (wife-willing) be able to check it out over the weekend, maybe, if we find that this is an important entity.

(EDIT - the phone number is valid for Lake county, a suburban area outside of Chicago... not necessarily impossible, if their reception office is away from their manufacturing and development facility)

*Tosses DM a trench coat, magnifying glass, decoder ring and radio watch.* Go slueth it out. But its probably just a really wierd coincidence, seeing as the Whois shows the page is quite.. archaic. It wqould probably be better to call the number and not hang up.

"Hello?"

"Umm.... Yes. Your not turning into a bee or hiding any extraz terrestrial AI's from the future are you?"

Just pointing out that Dana's last name is Awbrey ... dont know if that means anything or not...

Just to speculate/elaborate on this a little -

"awry" = "Awbrey" without the "be" = Dana without the Bee?

make any sense?

Ok, now that I'm posting four in a row, I need to redeem myself... I ran an anagram check on ROM INDUSTRIES CORP, and I do get these interesting things:

SPIDER MICRO UN SORT
SPIDER COM RUIN SORT
SPIDER CMOS RUIN ROT
SPIDER OCT I ROM RUNS
SPIDER CRT I'M ON OURS

And for fun:
SPIDER CITRUS MORON
SPIDER SCROTUM IRON
SPIDER IS MR CURT NO

(Edit - so really, we just need to track down Mr. Curt No, right? Razz )

In my defence...

I only hung up because phone calls of that nature are expensive, and I am poor.

[edit] I ran an anagram check too but when I saw the results, I was too lazy to check them all, or refine the search. Sloth.

Investigating ri.com

I just sent the following email to the ri.com address (predSPLATRI.COM):

Hi,

I was interested in finding some information on your company - Rom Industries Corp. I found your wesite (www.ri.com), but all the links on the page don't seem to be working. Is this website still active for RI Corp?

P.S. Your Company logo on this site is interesting. Does it have any meaning / depict anything?

I received a "delivery successful" receipt, with the following info (if anyone's interested):

Reporting-MTA: dns; tulip.innersource.com
Arrival-Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 18:54:03 -0500

Final-Recipient: RFC822; predSPLATece.northwestern.edu
Action: relayed (to non-DSN-aware mailer)
Status: 2.0.0
Remote-MTA: DNS; apex.ece.northwestern.edu
Diagnostic-Code: SMTP; 250 Ok
Last-Attempt-Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 18:54:09 -0500

I'll let you know if I get any response. If anyone successfully rings that phone number (and doesn't hang up), perhaps you could try a similar line of questioning?

If this is a legit company/site, they'll be wondering where all the new interest is coming from. They'll be there saying "I told you our eight-legged all-terrain intelligent roving probes would take off one day! It was only a matter of time!"

RI.com

Hey, first post... been reading the wiki and following the game since before network throttling eroded (I can't think of a more definite date, sorry) but just checked out the forums today.

I looked up www.ri.com on the Internet Archive, it goes back to 1996. From 1996-2003 the site was nothing but a white background, the logo and the same black text as is there now. Since 2003 (the most recent archive), they've added a background, color, the top banner and the line "the domain www.ri.com is not for sale."

So... yeah... evidently this is a robotics company that isn't terribly interested in a Web site.
