[QUESTION] What are those shapes? Hi all. First off I wanted to say I am brand new to all this and looking forward to solving this mystery with you all.
Ok, I am wondering what are those odd shapes we see on the corrupted imaged? The shapes I am talking about are all the same small square shape with unique squiglies inside. They have dark lines with lighter backgrounds. Most corrupt images have these odd square shapes that when blown up look like a piece of something. I tried piecing them together but no luck yet. Has anybody looked into them? Are they something of value or are they normal corruptions that happen when you mess with an image? I tried searching for this answer but didn't find anything.
Thanks and hi again all!

You'll have to get a little more specific, but I think you are just speaking of generic "messed up" pictures on the site, which is par for the course here... If it's the little ones that follow your pointer on the "hives" page, then it's actually bees... try refreshing your browser, when on the page, and see if you get a better view of the picture... otherwise, if I sound like I'm not talking about anything like what you are describing, maybe you could copy that picture into this thread, so we could see if this is news or not...

Well here is an image I got and I circled the spots (sloppily but quick so you know what I mean) I see them on many pictures. If you blow it up to 200% you can make out the detail better. I wasn't sure if it was maybe a message shredded up or just noise.

Yeah, those look like corrupted versions of the bees that are meant to follow your cursor arrow around the site (when it works properly), as Dorkmaster suggested.

Ah ok. I used Firefox to surf the web so I never saw those flying bees before. Just tried IE and saw the bees.
But those are 'right click save image as' pictures, not screen caps. Would they show up in the image if they were animated? I have seen that specific image twice and these shapes are in the same spot.

No... The mouse bees certainly shouldn't show up inside other images.

They're JPEG artifacts resulting from feeding bogus data through the huffman decoder, rle decoder, and IDCT process. JPEG DCT blocks are 8x8 pixels. If you measure one of your question blocks you'll find it's 8x8 pixels, and aligned on an 8x8 boundry relative to the top left corner of the image.
