Minnesota Department of Human Services

I really think we should start looking for patient records from CMH.

Charles posted in an update a while ago that anyone looking for records should turn to the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

The adress:

The Minnesota Department of Human Services
444 Lafayette Road
St. Paul, MN
55155

I was browsing the ancestry.com message boards, and saw someone inquiring about a patient ancestor in CMH here:

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/localities.northam.usa.states.minnesota.counties.isanti/304.1

That inquiry is unimportant, but notice some of the things the Minnesota Department of Human Services person said:

Quote:
I work for the Minnesota Dept. of Human Services which is the state agency under which all the state "institutions" fall...

Basically, info on our patients is private data for 30 years after the patient's death. After that, it's public data, but unfortunately, we destroy the patient's medical records. All we keep is some basic info on a card...

Quote:
I didn't talk to the source of the info myself, so you might want to contact her. Her name is Char Reinhart and her phone number is 763-689-7234. I was standing next to the person who called her for me and she had the info in less than a minute, so the cards are obviously right there in her office. While the Cambridge State Hospital is closed, it sort of morphed into a smaller facility called the Minnesota Extended Treatment Options (METO) program, still on the old Cambrdige campus, and that's where Char works.

Her e-mail is aunthootSPLATcomcast.net.

And here is their office:

Minnesota Extended Treatment Options
1235 Hwy 293
Cambridge, MN 55008
Aitkin County
Phone: 763-689-7200
FAX: 763-689-7203
Judith Franke, Administrative Assistant
Email: judith.frankeSPLATstate.mn.us
Multitype: CMLE

I'll be out of town for the next day or so, but somebody should definitely call that person and inquire about Ann Starling.

You might also want to ask her if she heard anything about Dread House.

OK, this one really is five minutes from my apartment, so if we think there's value in me going there to inquire about anything, I'll try to do so.

I have no idea where this office was. There were no clear offices that I could see when I was on the campus, unless she is located in the "Oakview" building (which had several cars in the parking lot but, at least in part, looked abandoned from a side window) or in the "Dellwood North" building, which I mentioned looked to be somewhat in use but was unmarked. Maybe it is not actually on the campus but near it. I guess I better be careful if I find a need to return, knowing that there is a government official located nearby... Twisted Evil

Might be an idea to call first.

Did I mention I wish I lived 5 minutes away? Smile

So if endgame ends up being at CMH, you're going to let us all stay at your place... right dishboy? Wink

But of course! What would be better than hundreds of people crammed in a one-bedroom apartment???

First post on here guys.

I'm going to try the MHS lead tomorrow, but wanted to point out that Charles says in his emails that he didn't know ann by the name ann starling, but by beatrice doe, and that doe was a common name used for patients.

So if anyone else is on this track, don't forget to inquire about Beatrice Doe as well.

I called the number, spoke to Char Reinhart. She said there was never a patient at CMH named Beatrice Doe OR Ann Starling.

I told her I was doing research on a poet who was rumored to have been a patient there. She seemed pretty taken aback, but agreed to look.

Sucks. It would have been really cool if there was a REAL Ann Starling.
