[SPEC] What do AI's drink?

Quote:
"Melissa," he said. "Have a drink with me."
I don't drink, but I asked for something anyway, and sat,
holographically, and drank with him.

Does it bother anyone else that she, an AI, drank with him? Ok, you might say that she emulated drinking "holographically", but then why did she have to ask for it? I don't really have anything to go on with this, but it's been bothering me, and with little else to ponder right now, I thought I'd ask for opinions. Perhaps the Castaway is also an AI? Perhaps holographs can hold and drink things? Perhaps this is trout?

Sorry, I know this is trout!!

I read your post and it made me think again. I read through the charachters at netninjabeewiki and found no info on the castaway. I think understanding or knowing more about him(he is one of only a few that is actually stated male,[read that in another post]) would help us ALOT.
Here goes the stupid speculation.
Real fishy lol
Castaway = MasterChief on his way to earth

Actually the spec that has made the most sense about the Castaway so far is that he could be a traitor.

See the other threads on this board for more info on that. The original author of that spec noted the fact that Melissa said that she had believed that the Castaway was noble.. belived, past tense, as though there had been a betrayal.

Search is your friend.

Back on the original topic -- yeah, that bugs me too. I think we're still missing way too many pieces of the puzzle.

They key phrase in that quote, for me anyway, is "sat holographically and drank". A hologram is just a lightshow; it can't manipulate material objects. I think Melissa "drank" a holographic drink... just a projection of a glass and contents.

"I don't drink" yet I joined him... some who don't drink alcohol will still join you in a drink, but it's just soda water or something in the glass. Here, it's probably just a projection like Melissa's avatar.

As far as Castaway being the Master Chief, we have no data to confirm that. One piece inclines me to believe that this is wrong; that the Castaway deploys buoys that give off sound to confuse the enemy. That's not exactly a good use of a SPARTAN's combat abilities.

-- Steve could be wrong, though. There's just not enough information to make a meaningful speculation.

That bugs me a bit, In halo Cortana takes the index from control panel after the master chief inserts it.

Yes. But Cortana was inside the Forerunners computer system at the time. It is possible such a system could provide a means to manipulate physical objects, similar to the field effects used to direct weapons fire in covenant ships, but which an AI in a normal system could not. Any appearance of physical manipulations in any other system would be just that, the appearance or illusion of it.

Although this is pure spec, I really don't believe that any character in this ARG is any known character from the Halo Universe. I think the castaway/Masterchief connection is being 'forced' just a little. What better way to launch an ARG to the general public than put ILB on one of the most anticipated games in history.

As far as "manipulating the index" goes. Think of it as a computer disk. Once it is inserted in the computer you can manipulate the data on said disk but not the disk itself.

Yes but she does physically remove the disk, apparently not just the data.

The conection to Master Chief might be a stretch but I think it should be disproven before it is just disregarded.

Sorry, but that's exactly the opposite of how professionals work problems like this. Going your way tends to make an investigation scatter all over the map, as various claims are made and others have to whack-a-mole the wrong ones. That leads to too much garbled info and not enough progress in any one direction.

The burden of proof is always upon the claimant. The connection to MC is a stretch, and it should be discounted until proved. That's how real-life scientists and detectives work... I think we should follow the pros in this.

Otherwise we'll be looking for the MC's face in tortillas soon.

Not "yet I joined him"

Quote:

If Melissa had said "yet I joined him", it would be ok. The particular part that troubles me is the "but I asked for something anyway". If she were joining him with a holographic drink, why would she ask the Castaway for it?

Admittedly, this is an extremely semantic point, but we've gotten quite a bit of other information by examing the semantics of this passage.

Quote:
He wasn't regular crew, just along for the ride. We picked him up in deep space, where he deployed Buoys, sending out waves of sound to confuse the Enemy.

I think another important question to ask is why was he picked up; what caused him to be a drift in space needing a ride? Also, Enemy is capitalized, but not given as Covenant. That's just assumed. Is this a good assumption to make? I agree with some that the Castaway is a traitor, and perhaps the Pious Flea, or even the Manticore. Ideas to that point?
