[SOLVED] Puzzlecards.net Sample Cards 1,2 and 3

Don't know if it's useful or not, but solved the second card on there.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Each of the numbers in the end on the machine is the atomic weight of an element. Taking the symbol of each element spells "Chocolate", leading you to http://www.puzzlecards.net/cards/card2/chocolate.html and http://www.puzzlecards.net/cards/card2/rewardcontact.html . There's an e-mail there, for chocolateSPLATpuzzlecards.net .

Perhaps we should just make this a single thread for discussing all the puzzles on puzzlecards.net?

I've just completed the Crossword one.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

The first page leads you to http://www.puzzlecards.net/cards/card1/v.html as all the answers to the clues had 'V' in common.

This then leads you to
http://www.puzzlecards.net/cards/card1/u.html in a similar manner

Then the next one gives you an s, which leads you to
http://www.puzzlecards.net/cards/card1/suv.html

Lucky Charlie!

Also, for interest, the morse code on the puzzle piece on the Examples page translates to 'I love you'. Hah.

Has anyone tried card3 yet? It's a poem, followed up by a signature then a sequence of Xs and Os which looks pretty suspicious:

Code:

x0xx00xx00xx
x00x00x00xxx0

It doesnt' quite fit any easily recognizable patterns -- here are some statistics I've put together to try and solve it:
-Lengths are are 12 and 13
-Binary notations:
Code:

 101100110011     or   010011001100
 1001001001110         0110110110001

-Run Lengths are:
1,1,2,2,2,2,2
1,2,1,2,1,2,3(or 1,2 or 2,1),1
-Single (0) vs Pair (1) runs are:
0011111
010101100
-Single(1) vs Pair (0) runs are:
1100000
101010011
-Abscence of breaks makes Morse code decyphering difficult
-Entire message is sixteen lines. Poem preceeding signature has 12 lines. There are two lines for the signature, plus two lines for X's and Os.
-The first letters of each line is: T,T,N,O,L,I,S,A,W,T,N,A,L,C,X,X
-binary addition, as aligned, gives 10100010110100 - fourteen digit number. Breaking into two 7-bit ASCII gives Q4. Q4.html does not work.
-binary addition, left aligned, gives 1110110000001 - thirteen digit number, which does not divide evenly.
-Breaking into 5-bit numbers (x=1, O=0) gives 22,12,28,18,14. As (x=0, O=1) gives 9,19,3,13,17.

Any other ideas?

Well, what caught my eyes was the KISS in caps. It's either pointing to the X's in the signature, or it's an abbreviation for Keep It Simple, Stupid.

x0xx00xx00xx
x00x00x00xxx0

X's are "Kisses" - http://www.hugkiss.com/valentine/xoxo.shtml

so it would be 1,2,2,2,1,1,1,3 -- that run of three bothers me, it can be either 1,2 or 2,1 or 1,1,1 if trying to make it binary.

I tried using morse code on this, similar to the dreadhouse puzzles, setting X to dot and O to dash (or vice versa), and finding my own breaks in the code. I didn't get far because this stuff showed up just before bed last night, but I was able to find the word "egg" in the code, which is conspicuous since the background picture for the puzzle is a big breakfast including eggs. But I was not able to get most of it to translate into something coherent. There were words here and there in the code, but as a whole, I couldn't make it work in the little bit of time I worked on it...

Damn! Was just going to do this when I got home from work. Guess I'll work on the third one.

Here's the text for the third one... (Replaying it was driving me up the wall...)

Quote:
They say at your age
To watch what you eat
No bacon for breakfast
Or sticky bun treat

Quote:
Lettuce and low-carb
Is all you're allowed
Stick to the program
And do yourself proud

Quote:
We know you love puzzles
To solve everyday
Now give me a KISS
And get on your way!

As I've let this sit, I was thinking that PERHAPS we're reading too much into it, and the KISS is a reminder to Keep It Simple, Stupid! so the answer is sitting right in front of us, and we're ignoring it looking for code.

the first letters of the 2nd verse stand out as LISA for me, the last could be scrambled (eggs?) as WANT, but the first NOTT just confuses me.

I'm on the karma payment plan

I noticed the same thing.
LISA is clearly in the second paragraph and TT as in Tomorrows Talk in in the first.
TT NO LISA WTNA LC

Maybe the XO pattern can shed more light.

I found a pattern to the X's and O's... but I got stuck... maybe another set of eyes can see something I can't?

I tried rearranging the X's and O's in groups of 5, then thought of rearranging them in a matrix... and I found a seeming pattern to them...

Here's how the X's and O's look like arranged in a 5 x 5 matrix:

Code:
X O X X O
O X X O O
X X X O O
X O O X O
O X X X O

Notice how the first row is the same as the first column down? And the second row is almost the same as the second column? And the third row is again almost the same as the third column? And the fourth?

It's those three X's at the bottom row that's throwing my pattern off.

Then again, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

With that matrix, it ALMOST looks like we can get rid of that last column, making it a 4x5 matrix, so

Code:
X O X X
O X X O
X X X O
X O O X
O X X X

So that brings us down to 20 characters. Too bad the whole poem's only 12 lines.

What if we're supposed to go "Keep it simple, CHERYL"?

Too bad with commas and spaces, it's 22 characters.
