Solve to New Poem (Spoiler) Using the poem and the Birthstone entries on Selene's site you get:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Inside the country of condemned men
A region exists called Royalty's Glen
Rising above all the mines below
Geology named after Noah's red glow

Solution The first hint was birthstone. Based on the journal entry, where Mike's birthday is reasoned to be in January, the possible birthstone was garnet.
With this poem and with a little biblical legend it is now confirmed to be garnet. Noah used a huge garnet on the bow of the ark to provide illumination for night navigation.

How to Solve
The poem says:
Another entry in the quest
To solve this one, it would be best
To remember to do it twice .
You have all the reasons
The gems for all seasons
To ignore them now wouldn't be nice.
Take the first from the last
From the first take the second
Repeat till you're out of time
Move in with each step now
And never forget how
Twenty four words make a rhyme.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Starting at the last Birthstone entry take the first word.
Now as the poem says, go to the first entry and take the second word.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Move in with each step means you then go to the second last entry (or 11th) and take the third word, move up to the second entry and take the fourth word, down to the 10th entry and take the fifth word, up to the third entry for the sixth word...etc.
When you get to the end you'll have a total of twelve words.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
You then have to, (as the poem directs do it twice ), go to the last entry and take the thirteenth word, up to the first entry and take the fourteenth word, down to the second last entry for the fifteenth word...and so on until you have another twelve words.

Sorry that was me again above, I'll have to learn to log in if I ever want to move up from "Boot"...lol
Anyway, in regards to Garnet:
January birthstone
Name garnet
Pre-Christian era and in the Bible, garnet is called ruby and Carbuncle.
So if we're talking biblical we've got Ruby, as well as Garnet to contend with.
Ruby (among others, i.e. amethyst) is also known as the gem of royalty.

Cem,
I agree with the royalty thought, but the poem, if taken literally indicates that is it 'geology named' - not biblically named. The geological name for the stone used by Noah would then be Garnet. Below is one description of a garnet. I think the last line is notable.
"Throughout the ages, Garnet has always been noted for its deep, rich color. Ancient legends state that Garnet could never be hidden, that even under clothing, its glowing light would shine forth. According to traditional beliefs, Noah used the wine-red variety of Garnet to light the Ark. The stone's ability to reveal that which is hidden may be the reason why Garnet was once thought to illuminate the mind so it could see back to past incarnations

I'm working on this angle:
a type of geology: rock/mountain/formation
named after Noah's Red Glow: Garnet/Ruby
And that this "formation" rises above the mines.
I've been looking into the RUBY MOUNTAINS , although they're in Nevada (I think...lol)....lotsa mines in NV tho.
A glen is a small secluded valley, so I'm also working on RUBY VALLEY & RUBY GLEN .
MapQuest will plot Ruby Glen, California but doesn't name it. It's near Raymond. Probably means naught right now, just fiddling.

The Ruby Mountains got their name during the gold rush days in the 1800's. The U.S. Army came to Nevada to help early pioneers find routes to California. Soldiers began panning for gold in the range's streambeds. They found garnets, which they mistook for rubies. But it's no misnomer--with their alpine scenery, abundant wildlife and water, the Rubies are considered the crown jewel of the Great Basin Region.

And then of course there's Ruby Ridge.
And Ruby Hill (a gated community near Pleasanton)
Pleasanton has been spec'd as the place the Rev could have been referring to when he said "a place where it sounds like nothing bad ever happens."
Anyhow, my mind is running in circles...I think I'll leave it for awhile...lol.

cem,
I'm sticking with garnet. "Inside the country of condemned men" would imply the US, where Noah Boddy is supposed to be residing (or whatever he is doing). Then if you do consider the mining aspect, then it would be a stone mined in the US. According to one site I was looking at, the US is not considered a mining area for rubies. The US is, however, a mining region for garnets.

Shemark,
I am not contesting what the possible outcome of Week Five clue may be.
What I am doing, and possibly for naught, is to try and see if there's an actual physical place that is referenced in the poem.
I'm working with:
"A Region Exists"
"Called Royalty's Glen"-hence the places I'm looking such as Ruby Valley, Queen's Glen...etc
"Rising Above all the Mines Below"- possibly mountains
Anyway...I hear what you are saying, but I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying, and maybe you misuderstood me to be contesting the actual clue.

I'm trying to work on locations too cem, so far the only thing in California I have found with garnet is Garnet Lake in the Inyo Forest, which is far north of Los Angeles and a Garnet Hill, but that's in Ely Nevada, which is also a good distance from Los Angeles.

Cem, map Garnet Hill, CA on mapquest, It's there, and it's not too far from LA, but I've yet to find any info on the place yet.

cem,
It is just that I think you are reading too much into 'ruby'. However, I do support your theory regarding the other info in the poem. To that avail, I did some more searches too. What I found is that there is a Garnet Mountain in San Diego county (155 miles from LA). It was named Garnet Mountain because of the gemstones mined there.

Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion. I don't think I'm reading too much into anything....I think I'm just fiddling.
Edit: I didn't mean this post to sound snooty at all...I was saying it with a wink and a smile. I apologize if it came off as such.
