Well... I'm Fi.

For some reason I chose the (in retrospect) slightly odd nick of FleaSick, but there is logic behind it, honestly. I'm from the UK, 25, female and am currently working in London as an account/project manager for a marketing agency, managing the sponsorship between a large mobile phone network (here's a kl00 - it begins with T!) and 5 premiership football clubs (that's *proper* football, not the grunting wussy kind that some of you know and love Wink )

I got sucked into UF by what seemed at the time to be My Own Private Rabbithole. I was unemployed and regularly buying Marketing Week and the Guardian Media for their job sections. All fairly standard stuff until one day I saw this encrypted advert in there. Having a) a computer science degree, and b) the type of mind that likes to know everything, be it my business or not, I decrypted it.

It all sounded very intriguing and I Googled. Needless to say that the first site that came up was this one, so I duly signed up and read the 15 pages of posts that had already accumulated by that time. Then I got into IRC, and that was that.

Like most people who hang around here, I found everyone to be friendly, intelligent, good-sense-of-humoured and not at all cliquey, so it was a very easy slide down the slope of time-consuming arg fetishism!

I like puzzles, and stories, but more than that I just like cool ideas and fresh concepts.

Fi

Lessee...played Majestic until it started sucking (which didn't take long), but loved the concept and wondered, "Why aren't more people making/playing more games like this?" Silly me. I mostly lurked during the first half of Metacortechs until I found the chat...after not having been on IRC in about 8 years, it was quite a revelation. People being kind in chat? Working together to solve a puzzle? Very much unlike the IRC I grew up with. Anyway...the frantic puzzle solves captured my interest, the community kept me here. With any luck we'll own your soul too.

Personal crap:
I'm much older than most people think, have a CS degree from a fairly disreputable school, and have an intense distrust of vegans. When I'm not pretending to work as a web developer at a failing dot-com in Lower Manhattan, raising my two small children (god help their precious little souls....Mmmm....souls), and drinking to excess, I'm entertaining the denizens of #unfiction with my pants-dropping antics.

And don't worry about my Swedish friends. They don't bite....hard.

Greetings

I've been lurking over at www.argn.com for quite sometime until recently when I was pulled in by the ilovebees madness. Unfortunately, the pure and utter chaos caused by the mass of visitors and my lack of interest in HALO quickly led me to lose interest. Now, I'm playing Urban Hunt and so far I have found it very enjoyable.
As I'm not extremely computer savvy, my ability to solve complex tech puzzles is severely lacking, but I'm a decent real world problem solver and I should be able to contribute something.
Here is a list of stuff that describes me: vegetarian, Eraserhead, journalism and sociology student, Transmetropolitan, 30, Modest Mouse, single, Henry Miller, Green Party member, Adult Swim, editor, Kurt Vonnegut, Sacramento, Ultimate Frisbee player and the Smiths.

Ooh, um, I guess I should do this introductions thing.

I'm Jehane in real life, but answer to sequoya or seq here. I got here through the bees, by following a link from a friend's journal and being curious about the game, despite not really being a big Halo fan. Feeling really swamped with the bees stuff (too many beekeepers!), I turned to the other games, and am now actively playing Urban Hunt, which by the way is really great! Come join us! Our game involves hot guys called Ron! /random plug. I lurk a bit in Subcity Central, and occasionally if I'm feeling brave I'll check on the bees. Smile I also plan to play Project Syzygy when it comes.. so yeah, you've got me hooked.

I'm from sunny Scotland - which I'm thinking might hinder my ARG progress in the future, as most seem to be US-based so I probably won't get the non-email real-life interaction stuff... true? What else, ummm.. I work in software testing for a big investment bank. I used to work in the games industry, but now I, uh, don't. I wish I still did, because I love games (RPGs in particular).. perhaps in the future I'll get back into it, who knows. Anyway, to avoid going off on a random ramble, that's me. Nice to meet you all.

Hey everyone, jest introducing myself. Y'can call me ChimericalWolf, Chimera, Wolfie, whatever crosses y'mind, as long as I know y'calling me!

Also, it's Chimera in a dream/illusion sense, not the ram/dragon/snake kinda way.

I'm looking very much forward to playing with all of you.

And Bazel rhymes with Orange.

Now the Ears are a whole Nuther story Wink

warning... novel alert....

<rant>
Hmm - never noticed this thread when I joined initially - but anywhoo

I am Caroline, otherwise known as Caro in R/L or Sephrenia/Miss Seph/Sephy in the online world (yep.. big david eddings fan over here!)

I stumbled across UF during ILB - I am a huge xbox fan (specifically EA Sports games, Tom Clancy Games, and of course, Halo) but have come to respect the amount of time and energy that must go into making these ARGs.

I live in the tiny tiny country of New Zealand and work in IT as a project manager.

My interests include cars, motorsport, shopping, boys, shopping, cars, xbox, sports, and shopping Wink
I'm itching to get into an ARG from the very beginning - and one that is international dateline friendly - and I also have a spare gmail invite - pm me if you want it Very Happy

yes, i'm new. not much of a surprise there. i played majestic up to the time it went retail.

unfortunately for now, it seems i'm stuck on the message boards until i can either get my own computer up and running, or convince my g/f that irc is not the devil. also, the java chat seems to be messing up ie. i've yet to try another browser.

a bit about myself. i am a currently unemployed tech support agent from the detroit region. my g/f has two lovely kids, whom i adore. i did get sucked into args again because of ilovebees, but i have found that i did not care about the connection to halo anymore, as much as it was a PUZZLE TO SOLVE.

i hope you enjoy your visit as much as i have enjoyed mine. if you want, you can email me at my address listed in my profile

Born in the wagon of a travelling show, PF used to dance for the money they'd throw. Separated from the rest of the tribe by a freak thunderstorm, he was raised by wolves until he left them to seek out truth, meaning, and toilet paper. He worked for a short time at one of the country's largest aardvark breeding farms where he practised animal husbandry until they caught him at it. Fleeing the torch weilding mob he arrived at his current digs, where several sprayings have failed to drive him out. He like the orange pills best of all and when he grows up wants be Samoan.

But seriously flocks...

28 (for a few more days at least, I turn 29 in exactly one week) and Australian, have a BCA in Writing but lack the self-drive to work seriously on anything new. Entered this bizarre realm by reading a post about Lockjaw on alt.games.int-fiction and was shortly thereafter called a "shill" by Zarf. The scars have yet to heal...
Anyhoo, I fell into LJ and loved it, utterly loved it so much that after it ended I just couldn't bear to even look at another ARG, it felt almost like being unfaithful to just give my heart to another game like that. I poked a toe in at several ARG's since, but never stuck them out (the ARGs, not my toes). Had a crack at being a PM with Fimbulwinter, but lacked the technical expertise to really give what was needed. Am trying to get back into the swing of things with Urban Hunt now, it has certain LJ-reminiscent "flavours" which I can't deny are attractive, but something's still holding me back from jumping in completely.
Oh yeah, and my favourite word is "proboscis".

Hi, I'm Tiara, and I'm a clueless newbie. o_O

I heard about unfiction from various discussions on LJ and other blog sites (especially with regards to Dionaea House) and it looks like a concept I would really like to explore. I remember reading an article about similar games like these (where they would call you up and give you clues) in a computer magazine dating to the 70s or 80s - I remember thinking, "Man! How cool are those!" And hey, seems like I have a chance.

Thing is, I have no idea where to start. In all the resources I've seen, everyone seems to know intuitively where to start, what to do first. And I'm COMPLETELY lost. I would love to join in, but I don't know if I am too late, or even if I'm allowed to.

Are there any resources for clueless newbies like me? Any tips?

Oh, btw, I found these series of websites dealing with the concept of acquisition of souls. They're all interrelated in some way:

http://www.sableshuck.com/
http://www.marlowedigital.com/
http://www.tridentair.com/
http://pathwaytravel.com
http://www.hornchurchstar.com/
http://www.hewalksamongus.com/
http://infernocargo.com

They're all related to Stella Atois (I think) in the UK apparently. Any clues on them? Are they considered ARGs, or something else?

All help muchly appreciated Very Happy

B*B, Tiara
