Yours looks the same as what I got, but I used A-Z, 0-9 like Wishi did. Tried to work it as a cryptogram, but couldn't come up with anything.

That would make sense with the rest of the line actually, as the VVVVVW and the WWVWVV refer to (in binary) 1 and 52. As in the values range from 1 to 52, covering the uppercase and lowercase letters.

 		Finally ... decrypted!
After giving it some thought I decided that you guys were probably right about the cipher being polyalphabetic. I decrypted this by ignoring everything that didn't fit under 26. I substituted letters for combinations of Vs and Ws, then ran the string through a substitution cipher cracker. I looked for partial strings that fit with what I knew might be in the letter (ie. SEN5241). Once I found one I was able to work out the rest of the cipher by slowly filling in the gaps.

I tried SEN 5241 and ELC 3433 with no luck. I tried to validate the id TRI 9842 late last night. I was going to wait a day and then ask someone with an unregistered email address to try the same (see what happened when I tried to validate etg) in case it doesn't work, as I've already validated with my email address. The id was in a javascript file on sen5241.net.

Yes, I registered with ETG7690. I tried etg7690 ice.hdllc.net, as that's where the message I got was sent. Bounced back however. It almost sounds like they want something specific from me. Not quite sure what to do next...

 		Dazed and confused!
I am confused by the coding for this message. Looking at the beginning of the message "possibleconn" below, using either V=0, W=1 or V=1, W=0 the "nn" is encoded by two different numbers (35,36 or 28,27). These are all above 26 so should fall into the same "alphabet". Depending on where you break the two alphabets (25 or 26) the "ss" also shows this.

The closest thing to a pattern that I can see is that if you use V=1, W=0 and subtract 26 from anything greater that 26 the encoding becomes:

a -> A or B
b -> C or D
c -> E or F
...
m -> Y or Z

then starts over

n -> A or B
o -> C or D
p -> E or F
...
z -> Y or Z

Great for encoding, but lousy for decoding. The choice of which letter is used does not seem to have a pattern. What am I missing? I feel somehow I am wildly overcomplicating this!

Caleb, did you get two consistant substitutions for the two alphabets (<=26 and >26)? Confused

I didn't pay attention to this while (it's not really necessary with the method I used) I was decoding but it seems there is a pattern and a simple one at that. With V as 1 and W as 0

000001(1) = a
000010(2) = a
000011(3) = b
000100(4) = b
000101(5) = c
000110(6) = c
...
...and so on...
...
101011(43) = v
101100(44) = v
...

For those who don't know, the string of 1s and 0s is the binary representation of the number in parenthesis. This pattern holds at least for every 'pair' of substitutions that I found. Here is the alphabet I used (I use a php script for decoding). Not all of the letters were duplicated in the message. The ones that were follow the pattern described above.

 		Decoding the 6-digit "VW" code
Here is my system for the latest VW message:

Code:

1. Convert all the V's to 0's and the W's to 1's

2. Split the resulting string of binary into 6-digit "words"

3. Translate the 6-digit binary words into base 10 numbers.

4. The substitution goes like this:
          z = 11 or 12
          y = 13 or 14
          . . .
          a = 61 or 62


So, the first four letters of the solution are:
Code:

WVVVVV WVVVVW VWWVWV VWWVVW
becomes:
100000 100001 011010 011001
becomes:
32     33     26     25
becomes:
p      o      s      s


I got as far as the base-10 conversion and then got hung up on the numbers 32 and 33 (since 32 is simply in binary 100000, and 33 is just one above it). I also got hung up on the numbers 26 and 25, since 26 was mentioned in the header of the message, and 25 is simply one less.

Since both 5-digit VW messages worked the same, and since both of the 7-digit messages worked the same, it would seem that this system would work for all 6-digit messages.
