Let's not forget that she's backpacking, since there's a backpacking hostel too...

a quick note to Dana

This is what I sent her:

Hi Dana -

I've been lurking around (in a good, non-stalker-ish way) for the past couple of weeks looking at your predicament and I was wondering if you can provide some more information on the off-chance that I might be of some help.

I'm not sure if you can access the ilovebees.com webserver from where you're located, but I was wondering if you might be able to do some sort of "server inventory" - I think you've been asked this before, but I was curious to know if you might be able to provide, say, a directory listing so we can see all of the .html, .jpg, .gif, etc. files on the server in the event there's something new or changed.

Also, I noticed from your blog post that you've received a lot of mail. Anything unusual there?

In the meantime, we're all pulling for you, so take some time out and enjoy China. I was in Shanghai a couple of years ago and it was a great experience.

Still puzzling away,
-d.

Another point about the backpacking hostel, is there's a new rating as of August 5th, 04. (did I remember that correctly?) Anyway, there's a very very recent one, that would correspond with Dana (or anyone else, too, I suppose) staying there in the correct timeframe. (gives time for one to stay there a night or two, and then write a description.)

Also, do you really think (honey hostel people) that Dana would stay in a 80% security rated hostel? With all that's going on. I admit that the possibilities are cool for this being a match, but I just don't see it. (In fact, I think she would stay away from a Honey Hostel outright, cuz of why she left!)

I think vpisteve was right when he said we're really in the ramp-up phase. There's just not much going on here until Metastasis, or maybe not even till Wide Awake.

Much as I like the imaginative spec'ing, there's no evidence that we've missed any puzzles so far. Dana doesn't nudge us in any particular direction. Just the nerve-wracking, tedious wait. Time to get on with life. . . .

See you next Tuesday!

The Honey Hostel is definitely a good lead/connection. It's hurting my brain to think about what it could mean though.

Found this site which states the Honey Hostel is currently empty. Think we might be looking in the wrong place.
Maybe if I'm superfast I'll end up double-booked in a room with Dana. mmmmm.
edit: Did someone just book in there on Monday night? As the beds just dissappeared for that day.

As is "as cuddly as the cat and as charming as the butterfly," which Dana also said in her blog. (Yeah, I know, I already said this in the other thread, but it's locked now. Mr. Green )

Note that there's another Hostel: Beijing Honey Homestay with the same owners (Mike and Aria)... having two of them may lend more weight to the "coincidence" possibility.

On first glance www.honeyhomestay.com appears to have been attacked by the Queen, but if you look closely it's actually just the site has been written by a 10 year old, possibly in Notepad.
Anyways, it has an e-mail address so I just contacted them.

While it's great to get something new. especially from Dana, I can see us gaining momentum in the direction of finding her exact location.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't look into verifying her story some, but please let us not harrass the only sane ally we have. We are here to help her. Remember?

So unless someone can find a hidden message from her somewhere asking for us to hunt her like a fugitive, lets lay off a little. We don't want to spook her, our only inside connection.

So I have to ask a question of the grizzled veterans here.

What's the best way for us to go about this? We do need to communicate in-game what we know to Dana, and open up some sort of dialog beyond, "We're here to help!", we say. "Yes! Thankyou!" said Dana.

What has worked best for this sort of thing in the past?

hostels

I agree that the honey hostel thing is a pretty amazing coincidence. Still, if you've fled over 5000 miles to avoid a homicidal AI living inside the ilovebees website who spied on you through your own webcam, maybe any hostels with a relationship to bees or honey would fall into the category of "things you'd avoid" (as would using your real name).

Just a thought.
