Do you suppose there is anything about the typo that gives us anything to go on? I would have thought it was a simple cut and paste to create the list, not something that would require typing. Didn't a 3 get changed to a 7?

Let me know if this is trout, but there are A LOT of long/-122's. That may be something considering the change by the PM from 3 to 7!

And remember the Mappa Mundi site? Might that be somehow associated with this?

Possiably a trout, sorry if it is, I have only read about 18 of the pages in the past 20 mins or so... hehe.

Anyway: Has anyone else noticed that there are almost no points in the middle of the country? All of them are in/around ubarn areas, and most are near the coast or some sort of a body of water (a few are even on a river.) Could we possiably connect these with a shipwreck of some kind, from space or water-bound ship? If something were to fall from space towards the center of the U.S. and break up during entry, would it be concivealbe that it would spead out from where it broke up? Wild spec. sure, but mabey someone can read something into this?

I doubt it. I'm still liking the Cell Tower idea. Nothing else seems to fit anything anymore.

Maybe it's just a math equation?

More proof of the library theory. Here is a map from the address in Atlanta to the closest Library. For the lazy people who dont want to look it's about .2 miles away.

EDIT - Ginormous URL - SG

There's a whole thread listing the coordinates. A lot have shown up to be some sort of educational area, and some have turned out to be nothing. We need to find out what's more common and weed out the ones that don't seem to fit. So I say.

just checked.
Margaret's House of Bees
is located one block from the San Francisco Library.
the building is also home to other shops and bizz.

i feel the same as some others here.
its probably important to start seperating whats at these locations.
no way would the solve be as easy as just mapping the cords.

National Landmarks

On the Wiki it seems that one guy went out to a location in the middle of nowhere, and found nothing of interest there except a 2 foot square plaque marking a National Landmark. What follows is my response to that; I figured I'd post it here too, cos we might need all the brainpower available!

Quote:
I noticed the interest in National Landmarks (NLs) and I thought there may be some merit to this, so I tried to find a website that listed all the NLs with their GPS coordinates (wouldn't that be handy?).
Sadly, I couldn't find anything in my short search, but I did find a book: National Landmarks, America's Treasures which may be useful. So does anyone has a copy of this - or has access to it, perhaps at their local library?
In the meantime, if anyone can find a website with the NLs and their GPS coordinates, then that would be even better.

It's 2am, I'm going to bed (stupid addictive game!) Rolling Eyes

there are no historical landmarks in ft. dodge, ia. you can find a list of historic landmarks by state at the NHL website.

http://www.cr.nps.gov/nhl/designations/listsofNHLs.htm

i also looked for libraries, and both are found on the opposite side of the town. i can try to find out more info (i live in iowa, that's why i've been looking at this spot), but i don't know anyone who would be in ft. dodge right now.

Location: Far Far Away. Nowhere Near You. Really.

A few things. The National Archive is not part of the Smithsonian, and it's on the other side of the Mall from the GPS location, down near the National Gallery of Art (trivia: also not part of the Smithsonian but also a large gallery on the mall). The great Library the AI cannot recall was at Alexandria in Egypt. Unless there's a lost Halo library.

Across the street from the Smithsonian Arts and Industries building there might be a pay phone and there definitely is a merry go round, although not directly in front. Otherwise it is the Mall - large open grassy area, lined with trees and paths/sidewalks. Subway entrance is farther west.

Checked out two more in person on the way home:

38.8430 -77.0425 - Air Cargo Rd, ARLINGTON, VA, 22202 (Reagan National Airport). This blows all theories re libraries, ATMs, chinese restaurants, game stores. Cameras maybe, but nothing a gamer or a traffic reporter would have access to. This is airport property. The star on the google map is in the middle of an airport bus garage/gas facility (5 bays, a bunch of pumps). If you err a little farther to the south, behind that garage, you are in an employee parking lot. Err a little to the north and you're in a giant economy remote parking lot. East and west other airport buildings. And I'm not going back on the 24th to see if something happens. While it is not exactly off limits back there, it is just not smart for a nonemployee to be driving around scoping out an airport for no apparent reason.

38.7230 -77.1203 - 8602 Lukens Ln, ALEXANDRIA, VA, 22309 (corner of Lukens Lane and Richmond Hwy/Route 1). West side of intersection is a Safeway plaza w/Blockbuster, flower store, chinese restaurant, Midas, Taco Bell, Dollar Store, other small shops. North east corner has a Denny's and a 7-Eleven. South east corner (most likely per one of the other map services) has a Hollywood Video, taqueria, Dominos, UPS Store a couple more small shops. If it really is a little farther in on Lukens, it's residential.

Unless there is some good reason to exclude the National Airport location, I suspect the answer must be in the pattern of locations on a map. Does connecting each of the pairs a few at a time draw any pictures or letters?

Location: Just outside of Pittsburgh (Go Steelers!)

Something I saw that some people may find interesting. This is probably OT, but on the coordinates 40.3491 -80.0525, a bit south of that is a road called Spartan Drive. This is the location in Pittsburgh, PA. And here is the mapquest map I was looking at.
