Okay... this just went up on the wiki GPS_Locations...

Big Forest in the middle of nowhere slightly off 30th
Looked at Microsoft's terraserver and found the exact GPS locs to be right in the middle of that forest

I just can't see MS bothering to coordinate an event there. Not that they couldn't... I'm just having a hard time imagining how some PM justified it to the $$$ guys...

Hmm, Row 89 Column 2 gives me this. Doesn't look like the middle of nowhere to me. More like a mall. Very Happy

Seriously, someone point me to coords that are in the middle of nowhere.

I don't think it's so much where the coordinates are, so much as where they aren't. I mean, if we're seriously suppose to gather at these locations, why would they exclude basically everone in Texas?

It doesn't prove you wrong... but it makes it seem a lot less likely to me. Maybe the Razor isn't as sharp as we all thought. Wink

Ahh, but there is a road there. Wink

Seriously, granted, that's a little obscure, but it's not out in the middle of a forest.

My Occam's Razor then says that they (the PMs) are monitoring these threads so they can then lure us to these spots, and gank our XBoxes and any loose cash lying around our homes, since we'll all be slumming it at these bogus locations on August 24th.

is what I get for relying on wiki reports... *chuckle*

I see how he got the forest on terraserver but on mapquest it also places it near a mall...

OK, there's one. Looks like the middle of the forest, indeed. Call me stubborn, but I'd leave room for a pm typo, though, unless there's more like this. We already had one in the middle of the ocean.

I was the person that posted that. It is not exactly true that it is in the middle of nowhere. It is only about 150 feet from a major highway, but you have to travel down a long dirt road right next to the highway to get there.

I'd actually be surprised if there *weren't* a few 'middle of nowhere' spots -- that would match the nature of geocaching, at least.

Did you notice anything man-made there? Specifically shelters, towers, an antenna, a sign, or anything like that?

-- Steve's tracking down his own idea, but not in person... there are no points in Canada.

There was a tower there with what I assume were power lines. I didn't notice anything else about the tower though. There were some fences there as well separating an open space to the west. There was also a orange flag almost right where the coordinates pointed to. I assume the city put it there to mark something burried there, but you never know. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any more information since I work down the street from this location.

It'll either be something really lame, like flyers saying "Be sure to buy your Halo 2" on the one hand...

Eew, that's a little too reminiscent of A Christmas Story, if any have seen that movie, where the boy gets all exited about a secret message to be brodcasted over the radio and to be decoded. He had been anticipating it for a long time, and when the time finally came (doesn't this sound like us and ILB a little?), he expected some profound solution, but, alas, the message decoded "Be sure to drink your Ovaltine."

Hopefully they know better than to do something of this sort..

Hey but maybe we'll get a $5 off coupon!

Seriously, I agree with vpisteve. Bring on the dancing robots. Or signs or posters with clues. Or...
