[Spec] Still pregame?

To start with a quote:
Quote:
23:00:10 <Elanlee> I was amazed at how ingenious the solution was. We had
long since written around the puzzle...hold on, Sean will tell
you the story.
23:00:40 <SS> I was watching the boards more than Elan, but didn't really
pay much attention to all that stuff, since I had no clue what it
meant. Finally I figured out what was happening, and I asked
elan, "Wo what is the page going to say, again, when they finally
get?"
23:00:54 <SS> get it?"
23:01:07 <astralpunch> Ha, so because of the Chicago messup, you guys
hadn't even written the page?
23:01:18 <Elanlee> right, then I said, "It tells them that they've failed
the job application, and they have to read up." which was a tie
in to the book puzzle.
23:01:27 <SS> "Okay, so that's a problem"
23:01:30 <Elanlee> Sean didn't think that was such a great idea.
23:01:44 <SS> "We'd better change something *now*!"
23:02:02 <Elanlee> So anyway, we re-wrote the ending (again, seconds before
it went live) and to this day marvel at how amazing you guys are.

The way the game seems to be waiting for updates makes me think that it's still pregame, and that the real thing actually begins on the 24th.
I think that the PMs may be watching how we react, and gaguing our powers as a team.
After all, they would have records now of our ideas that we send dana, the things we've sent the princess, and all our discussions here, I think they could know how we think if they wanted to bad enough.

It just doesn't feel right for an ARG to hang every time an update happens, and wait days and days until the next big event, if this is indeed by the Beast team, they're capable of keeping up.

Speaking of Beast team Speculation...
Quote:
22:46:30 <Elanlee> oh right, that's a tough one. There are definitely Xbox
games planned, but I don't have much to do with them. As far as
more of this goes, we've got such cool stuff planned! I can't
tell you about it or <whimper> they'd find me.

What do you make of this one?

It seems plausible to me. It seems like we're only just getting underway with this thing, and if nothing else strikes me as unlikely that it's suddenly going to end with wide awake and physical on the 24th.

I think you are right. We haven't really been given any (real) puzzles other than arranging text.

True, there haven't been puzzles, just things to find for us, some more hidden than others. I really do think the whole thing will go 'live' on the 24th, and Steve was pretty much doing a good job convincing me yesterday that it will probably be done by stuff happening on the 220 "axon" locations... Very Happy

All that happened in the past weeks is mainly to attract attention imho, get people interested, and placing 220 locations on the site has been a major step in that I think, because even when nothing will happen at those locations, I know of a lot of people that came to check out ILB because a friend told them about it because they were near one of the axons Smile

We'll just have to wait and see...

I agree that the story isn't going to stop on the 24th, but I don't consider this "pregame". Granted, this is my first ARG, but we're leading up to something.

(Note: this may, or may not, make any sense. I've been deleting and retyping this paragraph over and over to clearly state what I mean. That, and I'm suffering from an extreme case of "jeez I'm typoing a lot".

In my opinion, the 24th will be what I call the Mainstream Date. See, we're paying attention to the ARG, so we know something will happen on the 24th.

A lot of people, however, aren't.

The Mainstream Date is the day in which people who hadn't paid attention to the ARG will get their first glimpse of what ILB is an advertisement for - Halo 2.

A demo? Possibly. Simply the beginning of the more conventional marketing campaign? Possible as well.

On the Mainstream Date, non-ARGers will know about Halo 2. Thats my guess.

How long after the movie was conventionally advertised did The Beast last? Maybe we can get a ballpark answer that way.
