hmmmm. and we all recieved it on Friday the 13th.... probably nothing but symbolism, but still.... odd

I don't think this is even symbolism. The PMs seem to update the game every Tuesday and Friday.

The Queen's writing is always printed in Red. I think all of the SP writing is found in green font.

SPDR writes white on black and the Pious Flea writes white on white.

Hints of the Sleeping Princess presence in ILB's website Question

Should we be looking for some sort of laughter hidden in the site? He have The Queen's "I love bees". Is there some other sound file we should be looking for?

But then again, I work for a computer security publisher. First thing I thought of was one of the books we put out on Snort, an open-source program that deals in intrusion detection, packet sniffing, and packet logging. It's mascot is called Snorty the Pig. From Snort.org's site

Quote:
Snort is an open source network intrusion detection system, capable of performing real-time traffic analysis and packet logging on IP networks. It can perform protocol analysis, content searching/matching and can be used to detect a variety of attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, stealth port scans, CGI attacks, SMB probes, OS fingerprinting attempts, and much more.
Snort uses a flexible rules language to describe traffic that it should collect or pass, as well as a detection engine that utilizes a modular plugin architecture. Snort has a real-time alerting capability as well, incorporating alerting mechanisms for syslog, a user specified file, a UNIX socket, or WinPopup messages to Windows clients using Samba's smbclient.
Snort has three primary uses. It can be used as a straight packet sniffer like tcpdump(1), a packet logger (useful for network traffic debugging, etc), or as a full blown network intrusion detection system.

Again, maybe I'm getting really paranoid with this game, but in some wierd way, it makes sense in my head. As for what to do with this information, I'll have to leave it to someone more Computer security minded.

Actually, the Lambkin and the Fish is another fairy tale by the Brother's Grimm in which a girl and her brother are transormed into a Lamb and Fish by their evil step-mother.

The girl/lamb is about to be butchered by the cook when it cries out to her brother, the fish in the pond. The cook hears the lamb speaking and decides to give the lamb to a peasant woman, who happens to be the lamb's real mom.

Anyways, they both get turned back to their normal selves and live happily ever after.

As far as Gerda, I can't find a direct link, but I've seen some references to it as being another Grimms Fairy Tale. Does anyone know what the name of the tale is?

I missed that one, but now we have two separate Lambkin stories.

And the Gerda story is by Hans Christian Andersen. It is called Gerda and the Reindeer. It is part of the Snow Queen tales.

Someone should divide up all the writing by color on the wiki and see if they can profile each character.

-edit- I would, but can't, my life's too busy for a few days.

There's a different story involving a girl named Gretel by the Brothers' Grimm. It's called "The Clever Gretel". So we have to be sure which Gretel she's talking about.

P.S. I just happen to have a book of the Brothers' Grimms stories, so holla if you need anything.

Gerda is no poet or lady of the white glove. She is as poor as the Goose-girl, but more generous. Climbing into a boat, she entrusts her fate and journey to God, and sets out. In the third chapter, Gerda enters the garden of the Old Woman. Andersen, contrives the accidental encounter. We do not see him scheming in the background with the meeting of the two women: one is old and childless; the other, young and childless. Andersen insists that the old woman is not a bad witch, but still a witch who can order the arrangement of her garden to suit her needs, manipulating the memory of Gerda.

Well, one thing seems to be a common theme, especially if we use the Lambkin and the Fish story, it would appear that they are all stories about a girl defeating a wicked witch/stepmother/queen.

It would appear that the SP might view the "Queen/Operator/Melissa" as one of these evil female antagonists with herself as the herione.
(I know, real groundbreakin' stuff here. Wink)

Sometimes, to cheer myself up, I tell myself stories. In these stories, I am always the hero, Gretel or Lambkin or Gerda. I like stories where the girl takes care of things.

So, what do we know? She likes stories. This has been said in the email from today, and it was also said in one of the latest haikus (All of your stories/Mysterious, exciting!/I read them all -- paraphrasing, but that's the one. Very Happy)

We've sent her stories before -- notably the Widow's Journey. Now she's talking about the Secret Garden, Hansel and Gretel, and the Lambkin and Gerda tales.

There are lots more stories with female heroines! Today I sent ladybee777 with a condensed version of The Wizard Of Oz -- Dorothy kills the witch. If that isn't a girl taking care of herself, I don't know what is. (I also briefly mentioned the recent book Wicked, which is told from the POV of the Wicked Witch, and noted that it's interesting how you can get 2 different stories from a single one, when looking at it from 2 different angles.Very Happy).

Maybe if we keep telling her stories, she'll share more secrets?

I had just posted my reply before I read what Ben wrote. So maybe the key is to not only send her stories where "the girl takes care of things", but ones where the girl takes care of the wicked witch/stepmother/queen. So many! Cinderella, Snow White, the list goes on!

It's a good start, but rather incomplete and behind on current info/spec.

That would be your cue to go update it then. Wink

I agree. This is how she has portrayed herself from the very beginning, starting with "The Widow's Journey". She wants us to think of her as the underdog heroine, while the Operator is the evil Queen character.

But why? And should we believe her?

If she's really in that "suitcase" object, which could be either Forerunner or (unknown) Convenant tech, should we really be taking what she says at face value? I say no. I don't trust her as far as I can throw her suitcase. LOL

The only reason the Queen is acting "evil", is because she feels trapped and violated in this "tiny" webserver. Although I do worry in regards to what the flea may be doing to her, but that's a different thread.

Another question, how does this latest update change the way we see the relationship between the Flea and the SP? I used to think they were working together, but now I'm not quite as sure.

Maybe two intruders with different agendas....

(Well, that's quite enough fodder for one post, so I'll quit.)
