[TRIVIA]Exact Time

Just thought you might like to know that the countdown on the main page of Ilovebees is counting down to
Aug. 24, 10:56:58 AM GMT
Aug. 24, 05:56:58 AM EST (GMT -5:00)
Aug. 24, 02:56:58 AM PDT (GMT -8:00)

I did some searching and didn't find this anywhere, hope it hasn't been posted yet, sorry if it has.

Actually, it's counting down to August 24, 2004, 6:07 a.m. local time -- based on your own computer's clock. I'm guessing your computer clock is a little off, and you got these times based on your watch or wall clock or something else. Am I right?

(If your timer is in fact different from everyone else's, then it's not trout, but I must say I doubt it.)

i got it on my computer clock, which i set only minutes ago by the official government time site.
I got the EST time of the gov site and then figured when it was counting down to and then converted into GMT and PDT.
I think i'm correct Dunno

Did you by any chance load the page before you set your computer clock only minutes ago? Mr. Green

If not, could you please check the page source to see whether you have a few lines that look something like this:

Code:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="Javascript1.2">
 var chinatime = new Date(2004,7,24,6,7,0);
</SCRIPT>
<script language=Javascript1.2 src="countdowntochina.js"></script><BR>

and let us know where, if anywhere, your page differs? Thanks.

Laughing No, the time page was real-time, not a time snapshot.

And i checked the source (i presumed you meant ilovebees) and it has that exact same code snippet.

I'll check my math again...

Heh. No, I didn't mean to suggest that you didn't know the difference between a snapshot and a live web page. Embarassed I was wondering whether you might have originally loaded the page before resetting your computer clock. If so, then the java applet would presumably have used your original clock settings, from when it loaded, before you changed them. Could have explained the discrepancy. Dunno

Yeah, apparently it's browser-dependent. Try using Internet Explorer. (Gee, in a game presumably funded by Micro$oft? Can't imagine why that would happen. Mad )

(And I couldn't help noticing that ilovebeer.com doesn't seem to have this problem.)

How dare I use Firefox, eh? BAD potential Microsoft customer! Bad! Laughing *goes to check it out in IE*

Edit: Yeah, it shows of there. XP Well blast it all, and here I thought I could finally be rid of this buggy old browser.

I don't get what you mean here... If you mean that the site showed the time from my computer clock, that can't be it because i had to change my clock Neutral

What I mean is this: The java applet, which shows the countdown, has been based on your computer's clock. If you loaded the web page first, and then reset your clock based on the .gov site, the java applet would still have been running based on your clock settings before you reset them, back when you first loaded the page.

Easy way to check: now that you've reset your clock, reload the ILB main page, and see what the countdown timer says now. Smile
