Because now the PMs know we're going to turn up, they don't want to get into trouble?

Perhaps we should start making a list of who is going to go to which location?

Perhaps on the wiki, if it's still alive?

I'm new to this all, but I was just checking out the Madison, Wisconsin points:

43.075049 -089.398353
08:51 PDT

"Just outside the Memorial Library on the UW Campus, in a public square at 10:51am local time."
---
43.072606 -089.398620
11:29 PDT

"In the parking lot of the University Square, a small mall (actually slated for demolition this fall)...has a movie theater and some restaurants, at 1:29pm local time.
---
They are in the same locations as before, but with more accuracy (I think).

I think that I will try to get off of work to see what's happening at these locations (my work is 10 min. away).

I will go to the Bensenville, IL location.

Edit- and if a phone rings when I'm there, I have no problem admitting that I'll pee my pants with excitement![/i][/b]

Well, if something specific is supposed to happen at a certain time (down to the minute), at a certain spot, then referencing a location as large as the Sears Tower is futile.

I'm guessing that most of these will map to a specific location. I'm also predicting that those locations will include a pay phone. It's the only kind of event that could realistically happen at specific times at locations across America. The alternative involves stationing a Microsoft employee at evey location, which just seems unlikely - and error-prone.

I will try to go to the Macon location if I can sneak away from work (looks like the underpass of Brookhaven Drive and US-80, about a 75 mile drive for me)

OR a courier drops off something, which is still costly, but more likely than a person at that location.

Now that the times are not simultaneous, could it be feasible to have some kind of physical event at each location?
Maybe someone should look into the possibility of traveling to multiple locations and still meeting the time?

Edit-fixed quote...i'm still trying to figure out how these forums work

The Pittsburgh locations are all at least 3 hours apart, and relatively close to each other. That means a single person could 'handle' all three, if that sort of thing were required.

Setzer, actually, I didn't write that, sfsdfd did...

Secondly, I think we should start a new topic with Fireball's idea of "who will go to each site" (so there can still be puzzle solve-spec going on here, without the random "I'll go here" post)

lafayette, LA

i will go scope out the lafayette, LA locations tonight, hopefully. i'll try to see if i can spot a payphone as some have suggested or anything else that might be of use.

as for WAAP (wide awake and physical), i have class in baton rouge (an hour's drive) that ends only 30 minutes before the 11:59 PDT time. it'll be the first day of class, so i maybe i'll get out early.

as for the other two, 12:41PDT and 13:44PDT i should definitely be able to be there.

I just WISH I had a way to "report" after going to the location... I don't have a laptop, and I don't have a computer with Internet access at home currently (we just moved)... dang...

(EDIT- DORK SPEC - Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a "phrase" given at a payphone at each location (that was different), so we'd all have to collaborate those phrases to figure out what the total picture said!? DUDE! sorry for the wild spec, but it just hit me, and that's so cool...)

Downtown Chicago site

41.153867, -081.35625 is in downtown Chicago, a plaza outside IBM's building on the riverfront.

Not far from where I am, and scheduled for 9:03 AM Central time. I can call in late for work and be here for this site. Haven't visited yet (can check today), but I'm guessing that I can pick up some sort of wi-fi signal.

I can certainly check out one or a couple of the locations near Berkeley and Oakland. Would probably have to wait until tomorrow or the next day, though.

And while I definitely like the argument that payphones would be a good way to coordinate acitivity across a huge geographic area on such a strict schedule, how could the PMs possibly be assured that at 17:27 PDT the payphone (if there is one) near the corner of Dwight Way and Shattuck Ave in Berkeley will be vacant and available to receive a call?
Seems too unreliable to me.
