I'll take on 40.770056 -73.984648 at 11:08 (NY, NY, 60th and 9th) along with socialelite (just as backup of course Smile). I scouted it today - no phones anywhere near, unless it's inside the Fordham University building that the coordinate refers to (there is a number listed on one of the payphone directories, I just couldn't locate it). You can't get in there without student ID. We'll see what happens!

Irving

I'm planning on being at the Irving Mall location as well as the other two guys who signed up.

Not having a GPS Location thingie mabop, and mearly going by the online maps...it looks like the location is by the theater in the Irving Mall.

Scouting the location, there are a BUNCH of Pay Phones, and a FYE store..which won't open until 13 minutes after the time listed on the website (7:47PDT is 9:47 local. The mall opens it's doors for walkers @ 7am local, the stores don't open till 10)

While I do hope for more than a brief cryptic phone call (a demo would be nice) @ the very least it's giving people a chance to get together in a common cause. We even have our own code phrase for knowing one another..

"Excuse me, do you like bees?"

I'll be at the Orange, CA (The Block) location... (Yes, I'm new. Hi.)

I'll see what I can do about getting myself a Bee pin or something.

Berkeley, CA spots

Yesterday I went on a tour of Berkeley looking at the spots indicated by the coordinates. I have been using a nifty tool called USAPhotoMaps to leech aerial photos from terraserver.microsoft.com . It allows you to create waypoints based on lat/long coordinates. The great thing about this tool is it shows EXACTLY where each point is.

From my scouting and referring to the aerial photos, I found obvious phones at:

08:55 Bancroft & Bowditch SW corner
11:50 University & Martin Luther King Jr. NE corner
17:27 Dwight & Shattuck SW corner

Keep in mind that these were almost directly under the coordinates

There were 3 locations that didn't though:

15:27 Median Strip in University between Shattuck & Oxford
- There are phones on this road, but not in the median that the coord points to. The phone is within 100 feet.

15:59 Harold Way between Allston and Kittredge Midway along on E side
- This point is halfway along the street on the east side.
there was a building there with no access from this street. From the exact coord location I could only see an industrial roll-up door and windows. One window had a cryptic message taped to it regarding missing ducks and to pay a ransom (donation) to the BOSS at a certain nearby address. I don't see how that could have anything to do with this though... The building houses: a YMCA office, an office for Lyris (makers of various email tools), a postal annex with mailboxes, and two childrens' museums. There were also various empty offices in the basement. (I felt like I was having quite an adventure. I started to get a little nervous going in the elevator, but that was from too much Doom3 lately)

16:43 Channing & Telegraph SE corner
- Rasputin's Music. Lots of action outside this location on a Saturday. Some people can make anything out of hemp. Also, the hare krishnas on the NE corner sounded really good, serious musical talent. But no phones anywhere. There are standard mailboxes on the corner where the coord is.

When I looked at http://www.payphoneproject.com/payphones/usa/510/

It actually lists payphones for the YMCA in berkeley and for this intersection.

So perhaps the phones, like on University Ave are nearby.

Depending on how things appear to be playing out on Tuesday morning, I intend on going to these locations, and possibly the others. Obviously, backup would be nice that way we could spread out to hear distant ringing, if it comes to a hunt for the phones.

I'm going to join in the fun and get to NYC on Tuesday. I can make two times:
-073.987240, 40.757145 at 11:23 ET
-073.981868, 40.752010 at 4:35 ET
I know these are already more or less covered, so, if anyone who's going to be there wants to drop me a PM, that'd be cool. If not, I'll be the lost-looking person wandering around excitedly without a GPS device. Mr. Green

Aveena,

Sorry, this is not my computer or internet access. I do not have email
access and cannot register to send pms.

Anywho, info on PHIL needs a tweekin'.

[/i]Dingis is taking both the 5:19 and 5:59 locations in Bellingham, Wa.

I am getting (as PHIL says) the 10:41 in Bellingham, Wa. and then heading
south and grabbing the 5:31 in Stanwood, Wa.

Thanks.

Oh, and THANK YOU!!! DINGIS.

Sorry about this, just wanted to point out that line 15 and 29 should both be kent, ohio. 29 is technically right but might confuse some people that would go to it in kent. As for line 15, I think it got copied from line 14. I was not sure if updating this xls is a group project, so I will let you handle it. Thanks.

Nice catch! I'll make the changes.

I'm going to the E. 14th St location (lunch break), and also the Upper East Side location (75th and whatever, on my way home from work).

If you want to recognize me, I'll be the one wearing pants.

Edit: btw, I'm talking about Manhattan Smile

I'm still planning on going to the Springfield, VA location. There's wifi near there, so I can be online and at the phone booth.

The only spot in michigan is in downtown Ann Arbor as far as I know, not "Pittsfield" you may want to change that, will probably confuse some people.

Also, you can add me to the list of people going to that location. Put down "Robert".
