We only have audio, but if these transmissions have accompanying video, then it's entirely conceivable that Durga would be showing a video feed of Jan to Jersey -- perhaps not caring so much what's in it.

All the Jan timeline stuff does centre on Jan (although told from different POVs), backing this up -- apart from 'emergency', so that raises the question of why emergency's in there at all.

I can't think of this isn't correct. There is a wind down at the end of Jersey's interaction with Durga, and a wind up at the start of Jan's story. Jersey ends with asking Durga about Jan and Durga is just delivering.

We know from Kamal's story that survellience has progressed to the point where they could be monitored nearly anywhere, and Durga would certainly seem capable of doing that.

Perhaps that's just the point of Kamal's story? To give us more backstory on the available technologies?

I like this theory, too. THe only problem I have is when it first cuts from Jersey to the the BLIP.wav where the officers first notice Janissary, that would mean that Jersey/Durga is watching two guards watching someone else on camera. I'd guess the security room (or wherever the guards are) would have a camera, too, but it seems a bit odd. Ditto with Jan and James in the car on the way home. I'd guess Durga could listen in somehow (if Kamal can, I'd assume Durga can), but I"m not sure how Durga would let Jersey see what's going on.

Anyway, just a thought. I still like the Jersey to Jan flow, though.

But he's interested in intestinal parasites and dissecting eyeballs. I don't think the med student part is a sham. Plus, for whatever reason, all the med students I knew in college were very computer savvy. Technical know-how and medical know-how seem to go together pretty well.

Maybe being a ghoster is the equivalent to today's... I shudder even to type this... script kiddies.

It's possible he could have learnt all the hacker stuff when trying to find a way to spy on his girlfriend. Some geeks are very single-minded, and med geeks are the worst

Hey, first time posting, I've been lurking for a few weeks, It seems we can definitly tie the Jersey and the Jan stories together. I agree, I thought that Jersey is watching Jan be caught and interogated. Also, the Kamal story does seem to establish what technologies are available, but what if that story si what causes the communications blackout, or whatever it is, that send Durga to Jersey's computer and gets Jan caught. Just speculating,b tu couldn't Kamal have possibly screwed soemthign up with his hack and sparked this whole thing in the process.

Also, there seems to be a heavy focus on infidelity, any one have any ideas what the symbolism on that might be.

Total speculation, but could it be a reference to the Operator being cheated on by one of her crew as it were, in other words betrayed, which we have already seen some evidence of. To stop that betrayal, she could have caused the accident. She does seem to like to use extreme measures.
Another posibility is that she, due to the flea or covenant programs, cheated on her crew and betrayed them.

Yeah, I guess I just want to badly to tie all three of these together. It would be sure handy if all three of these are about Jersey. The first two are young Jersey, meeting Durga and spying on Jan. The third is Kamal, who is really Jersey who after learning from Durga has changed his identity to hide from the military but still uses his hacking skills to impress girls.

A stretch, I admit.
