I just read through this, and my impression is that the original poster must have got a thread locked or trouted and then taken it personally.

I only joined a few days ago, and I've posted plenty of wild spec. The difference may be that I generally put it in a related thread instead of making a new one for whatever idea just struck me, but I haven't noticed anyone being rude or unwelcoming to me or to any other newbies.

On the contrary, this is a great community; most people here seem very intelligent, friendly and polite. Even when strongly disagreeing on something, I noticed that for the most part they manage to keep their discussions civil instead of letting them degrade into flames and name-calling like most game-related sites I've seen.

An interesting open question will be possibly the massive amount of trout served tomorrow. My own spec thinjks of only 2 different phone messages; is there a way to combine posts into a larger one kind of thing? Might want to put a hold on fish dinners as everyone reports in on their findings, since this is new and unknown information, but it will be redundant.

Umm, I hesitate even to suggest this, but...Maybe we might want to consider...err...temporarily disabling posts from non-registered users tomorrow morning? Just until the Flood (pun intended) dies down a bit? After all, if they've read enough to get themselves registered, it at least increases the chances that they might actually have read some of the guidelines that are posted in ginormous bold capital letters all over the place. Not that I'm biased against anonymous guests -- there are plenty of silly posts from registered folks, myself included -- but it might eliminate one level of trout, without driving our poor overworked Mods completely batty.

Okay, okay, never mind, just trying to help, sorry I mentioned it... :cower:

I've read this stuff to, but it is mostly the Mods here trying to keep the repeat posts down.

Other than that they have repeatedly commented on the difference between the ARG players and the "Haloites." The ARG players are following a few "rules" for this type of thing that the "haloites" don't. The Haloites are simply putting things on this site that don't belong, mostly because they are not considered "in-game."

I can't claim to have read a lot of it, but from what I have seen the Mods are simply enforcing those rules.

Look at it from their point-of-view. They are trying to solve this mystery and are very interested in what will happen only to have some people who don't follow POSTED RULES ruin the experience for them with spam that doesn't belong here.

This is my first experience with an ARG of any kind. I couldn't even begin to try and keep up with these guys. This site has been a great source of information, and the least I can do if I am going to post at all (which I haven't) is follow their rules.

Can't you just call them idiots? Haloites implies that all Halo players are as clueless about ARGs as they are, and I am a little offended by that.

I agree that calling people Haloites, Halorks, Halo-freaks (as suggested by someone calling that himself mind you) does give the wrong impression, the terms have been mixed with the term "newbie" a little too often.

Instead of defining two categories, "ARG Players" and "Halorks", I think there are two different categories, i.e. people that are really interested in the background and storyline of Ilovebees and are willing to view it as a game or puzzle, and people that are just here in anticipation of a possible Halo 2 demo-release, something called The Flood, Xboxes, etc. and can't get their mind off that single subject and won't stop posting about that.

At this very moment we are discussing the various possible ways of preventing unFiction turning into one big cluttered mess. You'll hear soon enough what those measures might be(e) Very Happy

I just want to throw my two cents in.

I was drawn to this site due the Halo 2 connection. Within 15 minutes I was hooked. I have spent hours trying to get up to speed, while not flooding the boards with trout. It seems that alot of people on these boards are welcoming, patient people who are excited about the potential for the Apiary game. A few people though seem rather elitist about it all.

I know that the next few days will be rather annoying due to all of the new people. I would hope that you show them patience and treat them with respect. As more people start playing the games, more detailed and involved ARGs will be created. Smile

I guess I just wanted to say that people should view today as an opportunity to show how exciting and entertaining these games can be. I, for one, am excited about tomorrow and will do my best to report from all 4 locations with pictures, audio, and video files ASAP.

Abnd a greets into the biggest mystery game in town.

this one will be exciting, as you can feel it all around. The sad part on the older boards is ewhat is left of older solved games. To be in on a MAJOR game running right now and live is beyond excitement, everyone working, trouting and enjoying company. But its alive with speculation and excitement.

Foir some giggles, take a read in thre humor thing about the unholy saga of where.gif. Got me laughing so hard, it brought tears to the eyes.

May? This is a Bungie Puzzle that's about to reach all three levels of Rampancy in 1.21 nanoseconds.

Here's hoping the forums don't get, for lack of a better term, Farked into oblivion.

please be careful with your generalization of "halo-ites"

many of us are avid gamers, that play many different kinds of games... halo is a great game in many aspects, between a massive replay value and innovative gameplay... it stands in most gamers' opinions as one of the best games of all time.

i came to this site because of the link to halo 2... luckily, i joined in on the action here in the early stages... and have been pretty good about following all of it. you have to remember that the ARG community is going to grow, and there are going to be a lot of people, like me, that have never heard of an ARG before, and are going to want to know the rules....

i know there are rules posted, but it is human nature to be lazy and ignore them, no matter how giganormous they are... but, have patience, and do your best to cope, as the ARG community is still on the fringe of the gaming world. it is a very new style of gameplay, and it isn't easy to learn, by any stretch. i've been watching this forum since the end of july, i've been on every day, checking the updates, and i am going to my axon tomorrow to see what happens.

the bottom line is, most of you guys have had way more experience playing these games than us.... and just like new players to any game, it takes time and effort to learn the rules.... what you have here is the chance to watch the ARG community grow, and take a part in shaping the group of people that are going to help you with other ARG's down the line.... be careful before you blatently flame n00bs... i'm not saying that everyone is doing it, or that any one person is responsible in the matter of cases.... but, as a new member of the ARG community... it's a bit tough to figure everything out... and getting ragged on for being innocently short on information is intimidating, and looks bad on the ARG community... luckily, i had some help from a few guys that pm'd me information about the history and backgrounds of ARG's....

remember, just because players are here because of Halo doesn't make them any lower than you, how would you feel to play halo for the first time and have halo players fuss at you for not reading the instruction manual when you ask how to throw a grenade, or change your weapon, or even get into a multiplayer game? use this chance to show them how an ARG works, and maybe they'll come back and play again... and better the community... gaming is no fun without friends...

to restate, before someone doesn't read my whole post... i am not saying this is the issue all the time, there are plenty of guys willing to help n00bs, but more reminding you guys to keep this in mind as you stumble across n00bs asking n00b questions.... why don't we show them how much fun an ARG can really be...

/me steps off of his soapbox.
