[SPEC] Reason for the 3-4 minute delay between locations

(yes, I checked the search, thanks!)

One word: AUTODIALER. Real simple and cheap to use.

Set up single message. Enter list of numbers. Dial away on the times given.

One note, some locations have 3 minute others have 4 minute time frames. I am thinking that either therre are two different kind of messages being given, or they already tested how long it takes to dial into a location and have set accordingly, but I like the 2 message things.

So assuming a 30 second hangup and dial time, expect a 2:30 message and a 3:30 message.

By going down the list, we can tell which message is going to which payphone.

though I do like the idea of a backroom and a cd, but the payphone is the easiest and cheapest way to get things across.

And if there is a mob scene, whoever has the tape recorder needs to do the phone Smile....

I think the difference in time is to accomidate the 12 hour thing. I.e. to do the number of locations they want in exactly 12 hours means a gap of somewhere between 3 and 4 mins, therfore make some 3 and some 4.

in terms of meta maybe, but the 4 minute ones are at the begining and end of the set where there is less of the US covered (meta again, presumably due to time differences accross the US), therefore it makes sense to have more points towards the middle of the day, i.e the shorter 3 minute gaps.

isn't 4 minutes the time it takes for the earth to rotate by 1 degree?

360 degree/1 day * 1 day/24 hours * 1 hour/60 minutes = 6/24 degrees/minute = 1/4 a degree per minute.

So, yes. :^>

Yeah, if the pay phone spec pans out, this would be my assumption as well. Or that it's like a :30 message that will repeat (to accomodate other people)

Or that it's more of a deadline, if these calls are interactive (people who are on the call can't expect it to last more than a couple of minutes)

with 309 seconds, you cazn fit in many more locations. with a message of 3 or 4 minutes, it makes sense, also not how the intervals are 3 or 4 minutes, which I think blows the earth rotation out. To me, spec, it emans there are 2 mesdsages we will get, depending on location...

Is it possible to set an autodialer on a computer?
If so, couldn't you record 110 twenty second little snidbits, save them in
your computer and have the PC dial, send, and repeat each phrase only
twice?

Or 76 snidbits and have each one repeated 3 times?
How about 55 snidbits with each one going to 4 payphones?

I think that if the payphone idea is correct that we will be recieving
multiple phrases that fit together just like the text found on ILB.

I thought the gap between the coordinates might be to do with morse code- the three minute gaps correspond to a dot, and the four minute gaps correspond to a dash. Not sure how you'd seperate letters, though.

Please remeber people that the times are all 4 mins, then all 3 mins then, all 4 mins (with a little glitch, unless that has been changed, I haven't checked).

This means that there is very unlikely to be codes directly in the times (e.g the morse code, it would be a lot of Os Ms or Ts followed by a lot of Ss, Is and Es), nor does it seem that likely that there is a range of messages (you would expect places right next to each other to get both, not the same one again).

I really don't see why it's unlikely that there could be 50+ messages.

The PMs have an actress (or a girlfriend) read a three paragraph
statement. They sample or record it. Then edit/slice it into pieces and
assign those pieces to an autodialer on a PC.

We all drive out to these places, answer some phones, report in, and
recompile it into three paragraphs. It's essentially the same as the
embedded text on ILB. Yet it's different.

And please, let's refrain from the tired premenstrual syndrome jokes here, because I know some of you are thinking about posting one. Razz

Awww. And I was just about to post one over in this thread, where somebody made a comment about Cortana being "bloated." Mr. Green
