[INFO] Tuesday's Pictures

I have finished mapping out the closest kinkos to each axon in Wa. state
for our Axon Enhottenators, the Rainier Company.

I also called kinkos and this is the info for ALL kinkos locations:

Cellphones-
If you do not have the capabilties to email a pic you MUST have a USB
cable to hook up to their PCs. The use of these PCs is .20 per minute.

Digital Cameras-
There are two options here. The first is the same as for cellphones. You
MUST have a USB cable and pay .20 per minute. Important note here,
their PCs do not support the XD Memory Stick. If you do not have a USB
cable you can go for option two which also does not support the XD
Memory Stick. You connect your camera to their Sony Picture Station and
for 4.99 they will burn you a CD which you place into a PC that costs .20
per minute.

You can then email your pic to your local team or directly to the soon to
be Picture Email Address or whatever they are going to call it.

At it's worst, this would cost you 6-8 dollars including tax.

Thanks for the info Angri. Very Happy

One other question though:
Surely their computers would take floppy discs?
I have a Sony Mavica MC90 or some such.

And... crap... there's not even a Kinkos in Dothan, AL.

In which case, i hope i'm not chosen to participate, since i have no capability to do so.
It's... harder than i thought it would be to say that.

Question, and hit me with some wet fish if I'm out of line here:

If you have a digital camera, and you can view this website, WHY would you need to go to Kinkos? Take the camera back to where you view this site from and upload from there!

And if you need regular-style pictures digitized, take your camera to a Walgreens, because they can make you a CD you can take home with you. Now people with regular cameras are enabled!

Triden T, the whole Kinkos thing is speed related. Last week the passcode had to be transmitted within the hour. I have no doubts that this weeks challenge will also be within an hour or less (since Melissa says she is trying to improve our speed). Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't Walgreens take at least an hour to develop the images and get you your disc? If so, this rules out normal film transfer and is obviously why the PMs said "digital imaging".

The problem is a lot of people are travelling quite a long way to get to the axons, and if they need to upload within the hour time limit (going on consistancy from last weeks "exercise") then they'll never make it unless they had a personal helicopter. This is just easier, and quicker.

Sorry to interupt you guys, esspecially with this total newbie moment, but did Melissa explain WHY we need to do this? Is there any spec (wild or otherwise) on that? My phone has a camera with email capability and my house is like two minutes away from the axon, so its not that I'm really worried about time or anything... I just would rather go in with as much info as possible.

Once again, sorry for being so obviously new.

We don't know exactly why she wants us to have digital imaging capabilities, but keep an eye on the "axon coordination" page, especially the "passphrase coordination" and "what to do at your axon Update 10/12" threads.

*A bit slow on the draw... nice DR*

As of yet I don't believe anyone really knows. Melissa didn't explain her purpose, and while there has been some spec, it's really unclear right now what she intends to have us do.

and don't worry about being a 'noob' we've all been there, and most of us including myself still are new to this exciting world of ARGs.

Sorry about my initial bout of self-doubt.

I was indeed under the impression that i would need to send in any photos in question within a short time-period. To my knowledge, that isn't the case for this round's test.

I'm not fond of the idea of making another 4-5 hour round trip to Dothan today, so i'll just give all axon aspirations a rest until next week.

Okay, so film-to-digital would probably take a while, but since it works if you submit within the day, you should be fine.

There's also a station at Walgreens that lets you use virtually ANY memory stick-type apparatus to print out pictures (or in our cases, burn to CD) from just about any digital camera ever made. Give it a shot! (Kinko's overcharges anyway.)

Location: Far Far Away. Nowhere Near You. Really.

At an axon payphone.

Or a proposed axon payphone with the requested identiyfing information for the "new" axon (pic of the actual phone number on the phone). With a tuba. Every good Navy band needs a tuba, after all.
