Well, for the 13:38 location under stupid_cop i've found that the nearest payphone is at a pizza hut down the street in the other direction. I probably will not be able to go today though due to work but I'm off tomorrow so ill try it then.

Philly AXON

Well, I was there for the Philly AXON (missed it yesterday). dirtBall was there along with some other people who had been there the previous day.

dirtBall and I staked out the three above-ground phones while another group was downstairs. At 11:30 (it was set to go off at 11:31) I heard a shout of "Come down here!"

The guy at the phone said that he'd answered correctly, but when we asked him what happened he said that the voice told him "You don't know my name!"

So it looks like we missed it. Though, it looks like that file's been opened (good job whoever grabbed it). At least we know which phone it is for future reference. Smile

Soapcore and I were at the 8:31 AXON at the GPS 39.951054 -075.153517 location and scouted the suroundings since 11:10AM waiting for the call. Did not find or see anybody else in the area looking for this AXON.
Staked out the Train Station and the Farmers Market, market is a dud (payphones do not receive calls there).

Do you guys know something we don't? Where exactly were you guys at 11:31? Please share info.

Not all of the calls are for Verizon payphones The first say_something location (Denver) was a Qwest payphone and the coordinate came up with the address 1699 Wynkoop street but the address does not exist. So we went to the only place that is close that we were absolutly sure had a payphone and that was 1701 Wynkoop and that is a train station with about 8-9 payphones.

Met up with Addict again this morning to redeem ourselves on the axon that was incorrectly answered yesterday (Powell and Geary).

Addict had the honors and answered correctly.

Just us and a kid who was lurking but listened to a bit of the repeat.

We also took a pics of each other listening to repeats (that's my trusty red bike leaning up against our Pwn Booth):

Wednesday Morning in DC

6:07 (9:07 EST)
The map coordinates for this phone appear to put it *inside* the Museum of Natural History. This would be fine, except that the museum isn't open until 10am. The closest outdoor phone is located here (blue square):

I arrived there this morning, and the phone was already staked out. Smile I checked to make sure he knew about the name/nicknames, told him about this forum, and left for work. The axon didn't go hot, but I doubt there was a mistake on our end (I didn't get the guy's name, but he seemed clueful). Should we be sending

9:14 (12:14 EST)
The map coordinates for this phone put it inside a construction site. There is an apartment building in about the right place that probably has a pay phone (most apartments do), but only a resident can get inside. I checked the area for other phones, and found two located here (blue squares):

BOTH phones were in use at 12:14, but the phone on the corner was released at around 12:14:30... I waited at that phone in hopes it was the correct phone and would ring, but there was no joy.

I should be able to make the 13:14 (4:14 EST) call later today, and the 13:53 (4:53 EST) as well. Good luck for the 13:38 (4:38 EST) Kazzai!

38.637512 -77.298771 8:19 Dale City Virginia dizzy FAILED

No pay phone particularly close to the coordinates (in the street or on a nice piece of grass w/ trees next to the street).

Nearest options - a Bob Evans phone right on the corner (inside the entrance) and a phone in the shopping plaza (outside the chinese restaurant) are about equidistant. Only slightly farther away (on the other side of the street) is a phone in a Mobil station. Much farther away (down the other side of the plaza) is yet another phone. This is the only one in a nice Verizon kiosk, the others were in beat-up GTE kiosks.

I chose the Mobil station because, of the 4, it is the only one with an address actually on Gideon Road, which is where the coordinates clearly point. If Melissa had searched coordinates for the address of the shopping plaza they would have come up around the corner.

Unfortunately it was a bust. The phone worked for me, but no call. (The other 2 phones work too, I called them.)

If anyone else can get out there at 11:19 EDT in the next few days to stake out the other phones maybe we can eliminate them one by one.

EDIT: I see IvanLeopold and a friend were out there too - which phone did you stake out? Was that you guys walking into the Chinese restaurant a few minutes later?

EDIT TOO: Re the theory that Melissa may be using that payphone location site to find phones to be her axons. Maybe there are other such sites, but NONE of the phones I mention above are on the list that is linked over in that thread.

FYI, the axon I did yesterday was on the way home so I stopped for lunch around the same time. For the curious, Melissa did not call back today. Although her statement about continuing to communicate with the crew was a little ambiguous, I take this to mean she's only calling places where the connection was not made.

the santa cruz location

ok so i went today to answer the call since i overslept yesterday and well... nothing happened. There are two phones at the exact location that the co-ordinates say to go, but the phones don't accept incoming calls and the neither one rang at 10:44. o...

i did a little investigating. There are four other nearby phones, each across the street about a block aprat from eachother. of them, one doesn't receive incoming calls and one of the receivers ws broken in two. does this mean the axon could be broken??? hope not... anyhow, that leaves the two other hpones. One of them is almost at the exactl location for the first set of coordinates before they changed the first time. I think that's our best bet and if this thing keeps up for another day, I'll be there for the call. If that doesn't work then the soonest i can tackle the last option would be SUNDAY. if anyone else thinks they might be able to colaborate on this with me, drop me a line and we'll work it out. hope everyone else is having better luck.

my only questions are if they gave us such exact coordinates:
a) why did they pick phones that won't receive incoming calls?
b) why would they pick phones "near" the actual location instead of making those the actual location?
c) maybe the phones that can't receive calls are clue to something. Maybe there's something to the phone numbers or the addresses there. just a thought, trout me if it's already been said.

Pittsburghers: four_goats axon, Loews Waterfront Theatr 5:03

I ran the address of the Loews Waterfront Theater (Homestead) through the address-to-GPS tool posted by Iky, and it's an exact match for the four_goats axon scheduled at 5:02 PM EST.

I assume there's more than one payphone in such a huge multiplex, and they may span multiple entrances. If you're in the Pittsburgh area, stop by--let's not miss this one again today! Embarassed

I also suspected the same thing but it is not true. Yesterday I messed up the 8:59 location in San Francisco but others in our same block (our_hoodlum) got it so the audio file went online yesterday morning. This morning SYFer and I went back to the 8:59 spot to see if we could still activate it even though 2 other locations in our block of 7 were already hot. Sure enough at 8:59am the phone rank and it was Melissa.

Yes, she IS calling places where the call did not connect yesterday (as everybody is reporting). I reported she DID NOT call back to a phone where she was successful yesterday.

Is this solely meta to alert the PM's? I mean, I don't think the SP would care if the queen's message isn't getting through.
