Just got back from the last NYC Point at 40.773359 -073.964160, outside the Whitney Museum at 74th and Madison. There were four sets of payphones in the area -- one was out of comission, the rest were covered by us.

The phones never rang.

Ahh well, the Hey_Dad message still went hot. But it was a bit dissapointing. Good thing our fellow NYC ARGers were real cool to hang out for a bit with. Heya Social!

Hi, I know this is a bit OT, but other people are speccing similar here so here we go.

I think we're the descendants of the crew, as is the rest of mankind. People say time travel is involved, how much is the unknown factor.

Maybe the human race is an infinite loop.

Maybe the ship has been here thousands of years (hence it would be very buried) and the AIs just woke up.

The ship crashed on an empty planet. (the "wilderness survival" type stuff) didnt it?

I think WE'RE the way the covenant finds Earth in halo 2. If the flea is covenant AI, it could easily be telling Melissa to send out an SOS. As we verify axons, and essentially form a giant network for MElissa/flea, once we finish they could broadcast a signal for Covenant dropships to pick up on, sending them here and starting halo 2. Just a thought.

I think this is an amazing and interesting idea.

Bungie Puzzles typically showed the history the game couldn't. In this Puzzle, we're the history.

Yeah, I saw that theory on Penny Arcade, and have to agree it's probably correct, and would tie into the games nicely but still make enough sense if you don't know about Halo.

(edit)
In addition... the AI (Operator?) on Jersey's computer said she killed the person who was trying to kill her... I'm hoping Dana isn't dead. I emailed her, hopefully she'll respond.

My brother was at the 16:07 location. It failed to the highest degree.

He checked the place out yesterday and everything seemed normal, they even checked the payphones, because the theories were beginning about it.

Today, of the 4 there, 3 were RIPPED OUT with just wires dangling instead of a phone and the 1 that was left didn't ring. It seems like an odd coincedence that it happened the night before. Either it's part of a grand scheme, or someone hates Halo a LOT.

Phones intentionally limiting Axons?

There was a concern raised in another forum that maybe we got all the .wavs too fast: either faster than planned by the designers, or faster than we should have to maintain the interest level.

The Phases were a good way for the designers to intentionally limit information flow -- we were only given new information at phase transitions. That granularity is a little large, though... what if they needed/wanted to dole out information in smaller bites?

What if they intentionally picked bad phones for some .wavs they didn't want getting out until later? Then all they have to do is update the locations in a few days (they've already got us in the habit of checking for location updates anyway). For that matter, what if they're intentionally mishearing the responses to delay release of some .wavs?

I doubt that we're getting anything sooner than we're supposed to (with the possible exception of Dizzy). And if that's the case, we should be paying close attention to the rate we are getting information, because it's obviously very controlled, and therefore relevant.

ARGGHGH!!!! I could not get out of work to visit this axon! I saw a post from someone who said they were 8 minutes late... forgot where. Nobody else tried?

This is a little north of Dave and Busters. I think that big building is a Kmart, but I cannot remember.

I was there Very Happy Showed up just in time for the phone to ring. (Grey Old Navy shirt) For some reason, I found the whole situation to be amusing. Nothing like pulling up to a movie theater to see a dozen geeks like myself huddled around a payphone. Cool Didn't get to hang out long since I had to go back to work, but It was cool to be a part of something like this.

Just got back from the 16:11 axon - there was no payphone at the corner of 3rd and Ogden, and multiple sites with payphones in a 50 yard radius. None of which had a cluster of people standing around it. Yet somehow, the axon site is showing up 2/2 and hot. Was anybody here present at this one?

Ft. Lauderdale location

Kyto, I was the one who missed it by 8 minutes. Sad

Yes, there is a K-Mart there. The co-ordinate seems to be a little closer to the Starlite Diner (the "x" is right beside it). I didn't see any phones outside. Since I missed the time window and was pretty mad at myself anyway, I didn't bother going inside.

I'm going to try and go tomorrow.

good luck charming_ant!

Good luck! I hope you make it. There is no chance I can get out of work to be there. Too bad there isn't more interest for this in south Florida, as more phones could be cased out for the proper time (16:59 Eastern) just in case.

Kyto and Charmingant

I was there at the Starlite Diner along with about 10 other beekeepers waiting anxiously near the payphone. It never rang. We all left about 5:15pm Eastern.

There is a telephone in the Starlite Diner. It's the closest payphone to the coordinates. The next nearest ones are at the K-Mart and the Home Depot in that shopping center.

If you hit it another day and Melissa calls, send me a PM.

Hollywood, FL, 26.043309 -080.161138

Okay, I went out with some friends this afternoon to the Hollywood site, GPS in hand. The coordinates listed (26.043309, 080.161138), were in the middle of a friggin' softball field! We found the EXACT spot, which happened to be in the middle a nice big puddle in far right field (it was raining). The closest phone around (or where a phone used to be...) had been ripped from its post on the side of a building. No call, no nothing. This was a very sad day.....
