**IMPORTANT** What to say/do at the axons *UPDATE 12th Oct*

If you are still heading to one of the axons, or are in contact with people going there, the current status of what to say is this:

October 12:
Q: Who is the enemy?

A: The Covenant

NEW INSTRUCTIONS (for axon answering) - Oct 5

Q: What must we reveal?

A: The Truth

PLUS

Melissa is asking crew to make up a passphrase that must be given back to her at another live axon within an hour or so:

New crew member INCyr got this passphrase - it must be given back to Melissa within the next hour (now 45 minutes of 12:28 EDT):

"Washington District of Columbia Axon Signal Hunters"

OTHERS from earlier today:

hey_toots; Cmdr. ermac: "I am feeling very ecstatic and elated"

fencepost; Lt. Cmdr girlinfocus (hitshermark): "I LOVE HAIKU. SO I WRITE IT"

NEW INSTRUCTIONS (for Axon answering) - Sept 28

Q: What's my favorite song?

A: Stormy weather

NEW INSTRUCTIONS (for private phonecall answering) - Sept 28

When Melissa goes into a crying loop (shouting "Ilovebees, ilovebees!") you say sleeping princess to unlock the sleeping princess.

(Check here for an account of one of the private phonecalls).

New Instructions (Sept 21)

What's my favorite game?

HIDE AND SEEK

What is your captain's LAST NAME?
Answer: Greene

(updated to reflect exact question)
New Instructions (Sept 07)
Melissa asks: "What ship [strike]am I are you assigned to?"
You should answer: "Apocalypso"

- If you are being asked for the speakers REAL NAME, say Melissa
- If you are being asked for her NICKNAME, say Operator

Then, when stating YOUR name, say the 'passcode' word from the links.html page. corresponding with the axon you are at.

I just had to strike that - it is bad information - I have never had to provide anything other than the one name, and it is confusing people. -- aliendial -- also superseded -- AD

*edited to include new instructions & subject line- Rowan
edited to be clear Melissa is asking what she WE (the crew answering the phones) are assigned to...--AD

All relevant and important info on the Axons can be found here (thanks to Ztinkyfingaz).

Also, some tips:

- Take a phone with you so you can test if the payphone actually works and rings
- If available, bring a GPS reciever so you can make sure you're at the exact right spot
- Scout the vicinity of your axon, especially if there's no phone near were you're supposed to be
- Look inside public buildings. Examples of axon-phone locations were inside museums, university buildings and even a Pizza Hut
- If you don't succeed the first time Melissa asks you a question, say "REPEAT" when prompted repeat or continu and you can try again! Melissa only asks "Repeat or Continue" after you've heard the audio clip. Saying "Repeat" allows you to hear the clip again (not get another chance at answering the question). -Rowan

Note - I was the first axon on "pqi" and I must note that I was not asked for my name and so did not provide the password. The recording launched directly into the vignette after I responded to the nickname request (Operator). Same for the later one where I was the third or fourth axon.

There were more people telling me this, so either the passcode is not needed at all, or possibly there are different recordings, as there are for nickname/name.

Further gathered wisdom:

Melissa has been continuing to attempt to reach missed axons, certainly through today. So it is worth it to revisit a missed one.

Melissa does not call axons again once they are hot.

CHECK THE PHONE IN ADVANCE:

Some phones do not accept incoming calls. If you test this as best you can, this phone should be considered low probability. If you can't find the number Melissa probably can't either. (But that's not a 100% thing either.)

Some phones say they do not accept incoming calls, but they do. Sometimes you can check because they list a number on the phone or because you use it to call your cell and use caller ID and then call back.

Some do not ring but the call IS coming through - try answering around the end of the target minute. (You can confirm this when you make your test call.)

Some may be damaged (I had a sticky one where you had to push up the thingie to get the phone on, it didn't pop up on its own), so make sure you know how to answer it.

There's been a bunch of posts about using payphone directory sites and other mapping sites to get a better fix - search them. Some people have found the phones using the payphone directory because the map coordinates are too far off. Sometimes calling the likely one from the directory and asking who answers where they are will work! (see the posts today re masterful work on Cape Cod axons).
