his dad was in the signal core (or something like that), so he's an army or navy brat, or may be in it himself. either way, its probably somebody that he knew of was secretive or important off the top of his head.

I think I've got it!
there'se arn't melissa's "memories" at all. they are just random files from data banks that may have been downloaded to her for some reason .she doesn't know what they are and she is depending on us the "crew" to tell her that

Howdy, Frithweaver.

Silly me. I should have checked the format before making that assertation. Smile

I went ahead and did an grep of all the files for alphanumeric patterns matching [a-zA-Z][a-zA-Z0-9\s]{3,}, but I've not come up with anything intersting so far.

What happens if you decompress the files to wav? Perhaps there is something interesting there? It doesn't appear that the files have ID3 tags, but I wonder if they managed to cleverly hide something in there. I may be rusty on my compression theory, but MP3->wav is lossless, right? It's a long shot, but one worth checking, given that the file extension intentionally doesn't match the format.

No idea. His father is a Corporal, so it might be someone his father knows..

I got the impression that he was trying to gauge the extent of Durga's abilities, though that's just a guess.

I ran the beer.wav through a few mp3 steg tools and didn't find anything. This could be do to my use of beer as the password.

here is a nother one for you guys I was just listening to Beer and right after his friend says sorry about that there is something said or played in the background, its very faint might not be important and you might have already talked about it, but I can't tell what it is it sounds like a voice. If any one can explain that I would apprieciate it. Or even if someone with better equipment could listen to it.

Further proof that Durga = Melissa - check the Escape wav.

"Wet the system".

When have we heard that before?

"First stage is always to wet the system. Sink in, like the blood Odysseus spilled; give the ghost of myself a voice and use it. Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. "

Not proof!

At my work I use the phrase "I guess we'll need to Claudiafy that then," reffering to an object that needs the type of work that Claudia (a coworker) usually does. A pretty unique phrase. However my coworkes have also taken to using it because it's cute and descriptive to the inititated.

I != my coworkers.

"Wet the system" sounds like AI jargon to me, and both Durga, Melissa and Cortana would be equally likely to use it in the same context, as would an AI programmer (handler/parent/whatever?).

Whoever said it first is right. They are MP3s, with a WAV extension. You can change the extension and it still works.

In fact, it's actually not the usualy mp3 codec--it's the LAME mp3 codec. (odd name, eh?). For me, I couldn't play the file until I both downloaded the new codec, AND changed the name to the .mp3 extension.

I downloaded around thirty different codecs last week, so it played fine in both WAV and MP3.

Four_goats should be going hot soon. It'd be nice to hear a good quality version.
