[SPEC] NEW THREAD FOR DISCUSSION OF ALL SOUND CLIPS TOGETHER

Just to protect people from the 108 page thread that was revived over night, please discuss HERE where the clips all go, and what they all mean.

And someone do us all a favor and start with a summary post of the first sound clips and transcript locations, and the current status of the new clips and where THEY can be found (preferably in the wiki, but I know there's a few of you who are putting up assembled wavs, so whatever). That'll be the baseline for ongoing discussion.

first sound clip set (links.html) transcripts are at TheBruce's transcript page. (there is a wiki page that copied most of this but isn't kept up to date).

The first sound clip combined files are at Max Damage's site.

the second sound clip set (hivekuts.html) transcripts are at Robynn's site. (again there is a wiki mirror but not kept as up to date)

Currently there are 3 clips left to get in the hive-kuts set, and all only need one more axon.

Is J^2 a Spartan?

Seems that the ordering of the wav files is pretty much set - only one wav file to figure out, and that's real.wav Now there's a few different ideas as to where it will fit - but I suspect once we hear it it'll become clear, so I'm not gonna spec on that, as it's probably not crucial.

What I am interested in is James James as a former Spartan. I have a mate who told me that Spartans don't retire, and once they get put into their suits that's it. Now I don't know enough about the Halo Universe to know for sure if he's right or wrong, since they won't publish the books in the UK, but can someone please give me a bit more info about whether or not Spartans ever retire?

Thanks.

How is that OT? J^2 is in the clips, and knowing about his background could be rather useful in determining just what is going on in the clips and "what they all mean" (to quote from your original post).

Because the 107 page Post of Death is full of all kinds of ridiculous trout and unsupported speculation, and I for one don't just want to see a rehash of the "Who in the sound files is what character from Halo 1" argument again...

Ok, to rein all of this in...

This thread is to discuss the actual clips themselves. If you want to spec about who someone's identity could be, timelines, time-travel theory, well... this isn't the place.

We can go tangential once in a while and say "this clip, does it sound like the same guy from this clip?" or something, but in general, this is just a place to discuss the clips, transcripts of those clips, ordering those clips, identifying characters (from IN GAME EVIDENCE ONLY, not spec) and character relationships (i.e.- Jersey is listening to Jan's stuff through police chatter hacked by Durga, thus linking Jersey/Durga to Janissary James' dialogues...)

Point being, we're not discouraging people's spec. Just please start a spec topic in the "General/Updates" section for un-related or semi-related spec. If you doubt if it should go here, don't put it here.

By all means, put it somewhere, because all spec is good spec. However, do not put it here.

That is all.

I hate to say it, but I think we're doomed to a certain level of that. We are pretty clearly playing with a subset of the Halo universe. The Halo universe has a certain set of more human that human characters, as do the little dramas we've been given. Trying not to talk about the possibility of a link there is lgoing to be like trying not to run your tounge over a chipped tooth.

Personally, I think the whole Spartan I, Spartan II, Spartan e, Spartan Pi argument can be dropped. It refered to/foreshadowed in the novels, but I'm not sure they will prove to be 100% canon when all is said and done. Jan, and possibly J^2 are not ordinary people. They could just be olympic level athletes who are also masters of biofeedback technique and know a lot of tactics trivia, but what the big, "there are certain kinds of trouble we can't get into" speech.

In set two we've got the, "She's a teenage super-soldier with questions about her past. He's a hardworking cop who's not above taking the law into his own hands. They fight crime." thread. It's interesting but is it a critical plot element, or just something to move Jan "to the right place at the right time" for another part of our story.

How much more will "stupid cop" try to use Jan. Realistically not more than once if he doesn't want to end up in prison himself, but, well, he's already confessed that he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Is "stupid cop" also Aiden's cop "friend"? I don't believe so, but what's the general concensus?

Whad does Aiden want with Kamal. I'm guessing that setting up fake chatter accounts is not it. I'd love to know more of Aiden's angle in all this.

Why is Durga so interested in Kamal?

META Also, when are we? I mean are we answering payphones in 2004, or are we intercepting chatter signals? Is Jersey our contemporary or one of our decendents? This might change our paradigm on some of these files. Does Dana the posts on her blog? (Yeah, I'm too lazy to look. Drool )

This actually made me sit up and question whether we've been making an unwarranted assumption this whole time. Then I remembered something that Melissa said on the hives.html page:

Melissa wrote:
I must determine the cause of the accident that brought me to this time.

So I think that Melissa is here in 2004, and the she is sending all that stuff to us via the pay phones here in 2004.

Yes, I agree here because Melissa seems really confused with the whole "pay phones contact people" thing. She had a hard time getting herself able to communicate to us through pay phones, which means that she must have crash landed into our time.

But, why would she be searching for crew members if she knows she's in the past? I mean, it's not like we're her crew... We're just people who love HALO. Lol. But seriously, it's not like the crew is here, and if she knows she's in the past, I think she would realize that her crew isn't available to be contacted right now.

My spec: Melissa is assuming -- probably incorrectly, unfortunately for her -- that whatever brought her back in time also brought her entire ship and crew back in time. She is still hoping that they are alive out there, somewhere, looking for her, even after the shipwreck that dumped her on ILB.

I'm hoping real goes between freelance and bracelet because that conversation with Sophia is way too short and mostly meaningless.

Real goes between awful_fast and creepy, I think.

At the end of awful_fast, Durga asks Jersey if he doesn't want anymore material on Janissary James, and he say's "What you got?" Then real leads with the conversation that is in asset and Jersey replies that it wasn't what he expected.
